I have a chance to buy a Dillon Square Deal Reloading Press for $300 dollars. It is used but in very good shape, looks almost new to me. And it has the both 9mm & 40 S&W reloading dies and shell plates and Automatic Powder drop & Primmer feed. Also the primmer tubes and alarm for low primmer quanty. Does this sound like a good deal. I reload for both calibers but on a single stage press, this would sure save me alot of time. What do You think. Thanks in advance for any help.

cpt,

If you're only going to do high volume handgun calibers then the Dillon SDB is a good option. I've got over a hundred thousand rounds of 9mm and 45acp on mine over the last ten years and I'm pleased with the machine. When I got into loading high volume .223/556 I added a Dillon 650. Good luck.

best wishes- oldandslow

If it's all in good condition it's a good deal? Can you give it a test drive and run off a few rounds?

Dillon will send any replacemen parts you need for free, for life. If I were in the market I would buy it.

Good point. Just last week I got an upgrade kit under warranty for my 20+ year old RL550B powder measure. After some initial concerns about its operation, it's proven to be a true improvement.

In the past, Dillon has foot the bill for several items:
Powder measure hopper/tube
Small powder measure bar kit
Low primer buzzer - two of these
Crank - where the handle attaches - somehow they sent two of these one with a grease fitting and told me to just keep the second one or give it to a friend.
Other little pieces that just wore out - the little square nylon bellcrank cube, the plate a primer bar rests on and so forth.

I'm sure others do the same, but Dillon's customer support is top shelf in my book.

Seems like a fair price to me considering you handload both calibers. Sounds perfect for you to move up off the single stage.

I load both 9mm and .40SW on my 550B. At $300, it is worth it.

Is it a SD or a SDB. The B is the updated SD and has all the upgrades already installed making it a better deal. But this is irrelevant with Dillon warranty.
But I'm still pumping out 357 from my 80s SD- many of the upgrades have already been installed as the need arose at no cost to me.
.ejector wire
.powder hopper
.complete priming assy
.deldrin lock plate, etc.
I also have a SDB dedicated to 45 acp.
I would highly recommend the SD to those reloading mass one caliber pistol rounds.
Good luck

I acquired both of my SDB progressive presses as used. What ever I needed to replace Dillon provided under warranty.

Thanks a million Guys for all your much needed help and advice. I am going to buy the SD Dillon Press today if the guy still has it. And I am not to late. I am still very new to this computor stuff, but THR and the people on it are just great. Thanks Again:

Um, maybe. I generally like Dillon and like my SD press, but I need to tell you that support can vary depending on who you get when you call. I have had them replace parts at no cost, and have had them charge for parts that I thought they should cover.

My SD press came set up for .45 ACP and I am now adding 9mm. My press came with only the large pistol primer tube and transport mechanism and I had later learned that I should have gotten both systems. So I called to see if they could send the small pistol primer parts, which I should have received in the first place. Yes, they are sending the parts to me, but at full cost. Even after asking if they could send them free, they said "No, you lost the parts and need to purchase them." I never lost any parts and even have the original packaging.

Many here will sing the praises of Dillon support, and for good reasons. But if you read all the posts you will also find several who agree that the quality and fairness of support sometimes varies with who you speak to when calling them.

It also bears repeating that Dillon has never once sent anyone a "free" part. Those parts were paid for in the cost of the machine when purchased.

((( Just and up date: ))). I bought the Dillon SD Reloading Press, I was telling you all about. There was a second smaller box that went with what I had earlier told you about. Some more neet stuff I hope. I wound up paying the guy $ 275.00 dollars for every thing in both boxes. There was an instruction booklet in one of the boxes, so I guess I have some reading to do. Will let You All know how I am progressing. But I should tell you that I am not very mechical, and am really dangerous with a Screw Driver. Thanks again for all your help.

You got a heck of a deal! Congrats!

As you admit to not being terribly mechanical, to get used to the press reload one case at a time to see how things progress. Run one case through resizing, priming and belling, seating and crimping. If something feels weird, let the ram down and check all the cases. I've gotten a squib or two when I had a case stick, didn't get any powder in the case and kept going around the four stations.

That aside, it's a great press and Dillon has great service. I've reloaded thousands of rounds through mine (which I too bought used) in the last few years. Enjoy!

Read the instructions, load a box or two cycling one case at a time around the plate. It won't spill primers or powder at the unoccupied stations. You will do fine.

There are no words more chilling than "I'm mechanically inclined and I have a Mototool."

When they first came out they were a few dollars less than this.

A chop beef sandwich and basket an fries were $2.99 with a drink back then.

Back then they upgraded them to the current version and rebuilt them for free excep for what it cost to ship it to them. Yes, they even covered the cost to ship them back to me better than new, with upgrades.

Square Deal, like nothing better than I have seen over the last thirty years for sure and a solid investment.

2nd up date: About all I have got done, is bolting my Dillon SD Reloading Press to my reloading bench. And a quick read of the Instruction Manual. Sunday night I lost my Best Friend and the best Shooting Partner I have ever had. BILL lost His long battle with cansor and pasted, about 2345hrs Sunday night. I had been with Him most of Sunday Evening, but left to go home about 2300hrs. And His Wife called me Monday morning to give me the bad news. So everything is on hold, untill His Wife Judy and I can get thru the ordeal that is ahead of Her. BILL would be there for my Wife, if things were turned around. So that is just the way it is and you have to play the cards that were dealt to you. Dam I already miss BILL and I am already really feeling the lost. Thanks again for all the help. I will talk to you again when we get this unforseen problem put to bed.

Sorry to hear that my friend. I've had two best shooting buddies. One was a high school friend who took his own life six years ago, the other is my uncle.

I've been where you are, every time you go shoot he will be with you.

each of those caliber conversions are in the neighborhood of 80 new. The press setup for one caliber is roughly 350 new if I'm remembering right...

Thats a good deal.

Just fully read the thread, condolances and good luck with your new press. I gave mine to my old man (SDB) when I upgraded to my 550.. and I fully expect to see that press mounted again on my bench some day.
