As far as external dimensions go, how do the CZ 97B and 75B compare? I am asking because I am having a rough one trying to find a good holster (read: not nylon or universal) for my 97B, and I just ordered a Bianchi belt holster for mine, it is labeled for the 75B and a couple other guns. open ended, so the dustcover is no biggie, but otherwise are they reasonably compatible?

I know this should probably go in the holsters and accessories sub-forum but that gets very little traffic, and the CZ threads get immediate attention. I will post results of the holster after I get it in the sub-forum, because it is a valuable one and I would like to see it gain some traction.

Can't see the pictures here, you've got both though? I know you've posted about your 97B recently, do you use a 75 holster for it?

Back in 2002, I had to get a Ken Null Speed Scabbard (custom), because there were no realistic options. This may have changed, but I don't know by how much if you don't want nylon.

I certainly don't blame you for rejecting a nylon or cordura slop bucket.

Maybe this will help. It will take a different holster than the 75B.

hmmmmm... As I suspected, the height is a bit different. But the width is the same, and much of the "center" of the guns are very similiar in shape. I am only really looking at open-ended holsters because of the difference past the trigger guard. I wonder about the SP-01 though, with it's very similiar nose.

I will test out this Bianchi holster when I get it and update, but that slide height is looking like it could be the biggest problem. Guess I'll just have to buy a PCR or P-01 so I can bring a 9mm CZ into the equation. Don't wanna waste that holster after all!

And FEG, I hate those cordura holsters more than I could have guessed. I got a Fobus paddle for, oddly enough, my USP and Sigma (it fits them both perfectly, despite the drastically different slides and trigger guards), and I like the way it feels, so I tried out this uncle mike's or something cordura paddle holster I've never used and I wanted to burn it.

I don't really have a holster for my 97 yet. Have been shooting my CZ75 more. Ammo prices are hurting this college student.

Here's the numbers

------- CZ 75B - 1911 -- CZ 97
O.A.L. 8.1" - 8.65" - 8.3"
Bbl. Len.: 4.7 " - 5" - 4.8"
Height" 5.4" - 5.5" - 5.9"
WIdth" 1.4" - 1.37" - 1.4"
Weight: 35.2 oz - 39 oz - 38.4 oz

The CZ dimensions are from the CZUSA.ORG website
I got the 1911 dimensions from the Sig Arms web site
who are now making a full size 1911 "clone"

The max width is the grip width AFAIK
Looking at a side view on the CZ website since you can swap
75B and Compact slide/barrel/recoil spring the COmpact does
not taper for the last .8 of an inch. Looking at the 97 it doesn't
taper at all, it is like the 1911 - a slab side slide even if
the slide sits inside the frame itt's the .45 caliber that makes it's
slide to not taper like the 75B does.

If you can stand the 6 month wait - call Milt Sparks and see
if they make a made to fit holster for the model you'd like to
have for your 97. It's worth the wait, I have the MS #Axiom

GOod Luck

I have a Bianchi black widow that was for a Beretta 96, didn't have a holster for my 97B so I tried it out. I like to carry mine with the hammer down on loaded chamber, and the thumbstrap rides over the hammer very nicely, The cz fits pretty darn good, and is now packable.

High Noon makes holsters for the 97B as well.

I have one, but I don't really care for it. I'm not a fan of that type of holster due to the way it feels after a while.

I'm certainly more aware of the size and weight of the 97B and take greater pains to protect the gun, not only from coming out (which is really a small factor with a large gun for me), but rather to the "printing" or possibility of the gun being seen by others.

I will say the relatively inexpensive Dan Hume JIT I have for my Maks and CZ82s, are extremely easy to wear. This model sits the gun higher than some, and for me has great retention.

But what really makes slide type holsters easy to carry is the way the belt goes through the back of the holsters. The belt loops hold the holster, not the holster pressed against the belt and body to hold the gun and holster in place.

I have a wonderful FIST holster for a CZ75B. Like the High Noon for my 97B it's well-made, excellent retention, but after 4 hours it's hurting my side, regardless of belt. The way the belt loops through the holster causes the holster to become part of the tension. That tension is often expressed by the holster pressing like the devil in your side. I don't like that.

Here's the CZ75B FIST holster on the left, the Makarov Don Hume JIT on the right. The belt is a Wilderness 5-stitch w/insert.

I've drawn arrows to point out something. On the right (Mak) the belt passes through the belt loops without any tension on the holster or gun.

But notice the bulge on the FIST holster. The belt is actually pressing hard against the holster.

Straightbeltloopsone.jpg

See how the belt passes through the right holster. This holster carries the gun -- the belt loops only hold it on.

But on the holster on the left, the belt and loop positions cause tension, and can become very uncomfortable. Notice how the gun in the FIST holster is really carried inside the belt line, while on the Mak holster, the gun is carried "Outside" the belt line.

To carry the Mak or a straight-line belt loop holster, I only need tighten my belt to hold the weight of the gun. But with the Fist and High Noon holsters, to tighten to the same level causes the holster to press uncomfortably against me.

I have a no name old 1970's slide that I've adapted for my CZ97B. The belt loops through back of the holster merely to hold the holster to the belt. Your body doesn't feel the tension because there is none.

Now I either carry my handguns in a simple slide type holster or shoulder holster without any problems or pain.

Hope this makes sense.

That's the one I bought, good to know it works with it.

sgphoto- Great illustrative photos, I was actually thinking about getting a FIST, but I ordered a kydex FIST for my G27 two months ago and haven't heard anything yet. Good descriptions too, very helpful.

It took a couple of months and a phone call or two, but I finally got my FIST holster. That was two years ago.

Good luck to you. I think you find they're good holsters.

Steve

do they charge when you order or when they ship? I will be giving them a call if they have already charged me, but if they do it Georgia-Arms style then I can wait.

I was charged at the time of order placement. That's typical in at least 80% of the time in custom work.

Should something be amiss with your holster upon receipt, FIST will make it right (as of my last dealing with them 2 years ago).
