Just got a Federal blue box of 300 win mag. Probably the dirtiest box of ammo I ever bought. I hate dirty ammo. So I had to clean and shine 'em up!

Several years ago My LGS had Remington ultra bonded .308, buy one get one free. So i bought a couple of hundred. When I opened one box to sight in the the rifle I was surprised how dirty each round was. Not tarnished, they just looked like they had been kicked around the factory floor before packing. Dirty though they were they still shot OK.

Federal, and by extension, Lake City, ammo has been some of the dirtiest ammo I've ever seen, as NIB ammo goes. I ordered a 500 box of 7.62mm LC, and... as someone mentioned... it looked like it was swept up off the floor and dumped into the box. I've had other ammo from them that turned out the same way, even in 20rd retail boxes.

I got a box of factory ammo a couple of years ago.I blamed the ammo company of bad quality control but I figured out it might be the card board that the rounds where packaged in. It has a lot of acid to make cardboard. Just my 2 cents

Hah - I like to clean and shine guns when they really don't even need it for any practical reason, so I hear ya. Great way to kill some time on a nasty cold winter day. Or a miserably hot and humid summer day. Or when the grass needs mowing and I don't feel like it. Or ......................

Federal seems to be the worst out of them all! I bought a bunch of 50 BMG a couple years back when the price was to good to pass up.

Opened every box just to check and every round had some kind of black substance on them. I don't think it was corrosion, I think they had something go wrong on the floor. It didn't affect the ammo and they sure weren't going to clean thousands of rounds of ammo!

So, box it up and send it out at a cheap price! There was plenty of talk about it but being cheap, guys shot it up. I cleaned them up as well as I could and shot it. Every one went bang, just cosmetic, brass cleaned up better after being shot.
