C.O.P.S VS. A.M.W Who's More Anti Gun

C.O.P.S is definetely anti gun & almost NEVER portrays citizen gun ownership in a good light ,but I think Americas Most Wanted is waaaaaaaaaaaay worse. Did anyone here see the " Bike week at Sturgis " episode ? They were actually following the cops around while they pulled over any biker wearing colors taking photos & running their license & entering the information into a criminal data base. I remeber 2 guys that got stopped and searched one had a .22 pepperbox the other had a .22 DERRINGER and they both had Buck knives, & I THINK one had a .38 snubby John Walsh went on and on about the "arsenal" they had.......until they pulled out their CHPs. he kinda glossed over that part. Then he asked them why do you NEED these guns. they handled it pretty well , I think and told him that the guns where their last line of defense.

Granted they clearly violated the owner's civil rights, but after having seen that video from NOLA wherein they body slammed an old woman in order to forcibly confiscate her revolver (which she was holding in a non-threatening manner) the conduct of those officers almost sounds gentlemanly. Almost.

One thing is for certain, he'll have to hire attorneys and possess himself in patience in order to get it back. As many others have said, it's always wise to have a plan B. Years ago in Maryland, Baltimore if memory serves, a store owner shot and killed a would-be robber and although it was ruled justifiable they confiscated his firearm. Shortly thereafter, several of the deceased's criminal bretheren went back looking for revenge and as you can imagine the defenseless owner was the next person to sign the guest register.

COPS has as much relation to real police work as 'Just Shoot Me' has to publishing.

Except that COPS films real cops while they're working

The police did an illegal seizure of the firearm.

Not if he turned it over willingly. The choice was probably between going to jail for discharging a firearm in an occupied structure, or turning the gun over.

I did this same thing once with an intoxicated CCW-holder that told a friend of his on the phone that he was thinking of killing himself. I asked for the keys to his car so I could take his gun. He wouldn't give them up. I said he'd be under arrest for being intoxicated while possessing a handgun. He gave up the gun and wasn't charged.

" I don't really have a ( legitimate) reason to pull this guy over but I'm going to make one up & see if I can talk him into a vehicle search"

I stand corrected. I bet the judge would dismiss any evidence found on the stop.

It takes a real man to admit he's wrong. If anybody has to be a cop I'm glad it's you.

Did you ever give the guy his gun back?

Did you ever give the guy his gun back?

It was eventually taken back to the office by another officer at the scene. It was tagged in to our property office for safe-keeping. The guy would have been allowed to come get it after he sobered-up. I don't know if he did. I hope so, it was a fairly new Glock 27

Thats why you have Cameras every where... A quick rewind and it changes from your word vs thiers, too this is what the camera saw. While yes it can also hurt you, set at the correct angle they almost always help in situations like this.

COPS always cracks me up, ethier for the dumb crimals or dumb LEOs...

I don't imagine you're often getting the full story with 6 minutes of heavily edited video (see 6 minute time slot) to be able to detemine anything. Its entertainment, nothing more.

hold the phone, stop the presses, call the mayor, call the NRA, GOA, JFPO, Rush Limbaugh, Michael Savage, Bill O'Reily, the Chielf of Police, 911, and anyone else you can think of, those cops should be arrested and thrown in jail for their illegal behivour.

Yep, definitely illegal behavior. What if these two guys do inflict harm on the manager afterwards. That cop could be responsible for part of the crime too. I can smell a lawsuit here.

Moral of the story: Always have a Plan "B."

Amen to that.

Regardless of what life throws you, it's good to have a backup plan, regardless of whether your first choice was the best choice given the situation.

That could be fun game! Watch Cops and every time they violate someone’s civil rights you have to take a shot of Jack Daniels.

Nah...too short a game. Most episodes would have the average viewer toasted halfway through the show.

Police tactics have dramatically changed, You can also see a huge increase in brutality claims. Most of which are dismissed.
The police are trained to put a knee in your neck or back while cuffing you on the ground.
I always thought that was excessive especially when the guy is obviously complying. It's all about control.
Do some go too far?,definitely, but most get suspended with pay until the case is investigated.
We had one in my town recently, the officer threw down and arrested a woman for obstruction after she was helping the police translate for a Spanish accident victim.
The police wanted her to stay, she had to leave to get her baby.
5 months later the prosecutor dropped the charges on her, said she shouldn't have been arrested but found the tactics used in the arrest weren't excessive.
So see even though she shouldn't have been arrested in the first place, they found nothing wrong with slamming her on the ground and cuffing her.
Gotta love NJ

The guy's first mistake was shooting into the air.

Yeah, I've been taught the following:
-If it's a deadly force threat, shoot to stop the threat.
-Otherwise, don't shoot.
-Shooting in the air is a no-no.

Plan B sounds good

My favorite TV shows:
History Channel
Discovery
Just for Laughs
Cops

i was taught that the only time you shoot into the air was at a passing game bird, and then ONLY if there is no one in the line of fire! discharging a firearm into the air for a "warning" shot is inhearently dangerous. there is no way to know where the bullet will come down, or what, or who it will hit. could be a terrible way to end up in jail for manslaughter! as for "cops" it is disturbingly funny. it is unbelieveable how dumb some people are! i didn't see the bike week show, but sounds like the producers wanted us to believe the cops were "protecting and serving" by running all the "ratnest bikers" that were in town. i am sure that a percentage of the "ratnest" bikers were criminal type. but the fact is that most bikers are good ol boys and girls looking for some fun. you would be suprised how many "bikers" are doctors, lawyers and professional people. i know, i have spent over 40 years in motorcycle shops. i just happen to love guns also! as do many motorcyclists.

So the "penalty" for going too far, or we should say, improper and sometimes illegal activities, is a paid vacation?

OK the guy was wrong to shoot in the air..that being said,if cops ever want to take your gun:
1)ask for a supervisor to come to the scene
2)get a reciept and badge numbers and names
3)be polite and do what they say.
4)call your lawyer
5)get your back up gun.
I am not a lawyer,just a parnoid citizen.
