Is there a real reason that the Ramset et al .22's cannot be fired in a .22 rifle ?.

As a very loud blank for training a dog,or scaring away wildlife I would think they would be safe.

As there is no projectile to damage the barrel with higher pressure.

Thanks for any assistance.

I've heard one can shove a .22 pellet about a foot ahead of the chamber into a bolt action rifle barrel and use a low power ramset cartridge in place of a .22 short. Not that I would try it or suggest you do. Read it on a survival forum a couple years back.

You could do it, it is dirty and you will need to clean the barrel. The pressure coming out of the barrel will easily kill someone if you fire it to close to a vital area. More than one person has been killed with a blank, be as careful as you would be with a loaded gun.

I have a Hammond Game Getter that uses Ramset blanks. This is a .30-06 cartridge case with an off-center "primer pocket." The "primer pocket" is actually a chamber for a .22 Ramset. With a sized 00 buckshot in the mouth, it can be used to kill small game. How many times have you been sitting on a deer stand and had the squirrels almost carry you off?

I use the brown (lowest power) Ramset, and can shoot 1" groups at 25 yards that impact at the top of the thick part of the bottom crosshair.
