In Ohio, of businesses that are not legally required to ban carry, car dealers are by far the most likely--Possibly as many car dealers as all other businesses combined, I'd guess 20% or more post in my area. We just got rid of our stupid "open carry or locked case only" car carry laws--I'm wondering if this is why so many of them post. In states that do have private 'no carry' signs with legal force, (and never had our insane car carry laws) are car dealers more likely to post than other businesses?

If YOU were as big a ripoff as most car dealers (especially USED car dealers), would YOU want people that are carrying guns running around?? They're probably afraid they would lose the whole service department...

Some do. Some don't. It varies. One major area car dealer posted signs a few weeks back, but after a campaign to contact them, the signs came right down.

Where we shopped and bought our last two cars didn't have the legally binding signs. I was carrying while shopping, no big deal, nobody knew. If they had the signs we'd have shopped elsewhere!

Haven't seen any in Northern Virginia. I carried when I bought my last car, because I wanted to make sure the bucket seat was comfortable with my pistol on.

Not if they want my business. I refuse to do business with anti-gun bigots if I have an alternative. I just cancelled my wireless service with CellularOne because they posted at my local store. They are the only private business in a borough larger than the state of West Virginia that posts. I made sure to send a letter to the local store and one to Ok City HQ letting them know in no uncertain terms why I changed providers. If enough people send letters letting these car dealers know why they're losing business, maybe they'll get the hint.

I work in a car dealership and have worked in others as well. Most of the dealerships do not allow employees to have guns on the premises, but I've never seen a sign banning the customers from carrying. In fact I've "made" several in the service area. I have worked in dealerships where the managers have guns in their desks, concerned about disgruntled former employees etc. That was before the policy changes in the employee handbook.

Not that I'm aware of, I bought a Town & Country a few months back, and was carrying at the time. No big deal with the salesman I had.

I believe all of the Burt Automotive dealerships have large signs saying no handguns allowed. I called them a couple years about it and lodged a complaint. Not sure if they ever took em down as I have never set foot on their property again.

Not sure exactly. At least a third, maybe as much as half (depending on the part of town). Where I live, only a couple or so are posted, but where the luxury car dealers are, most of them are, so I'd guess it evens out to half.
Most of those who post have signs that aren't valid under MO law- a 6" square gun with a slash through it isn't enough. Those who do have legit signs usually don't post every entrance (maybe only one of them around the side).
Only a few dealers have legit signs at every entrance (one that I know of sells Chevrolets- those dealers are NOT in short supply).
The quick way to get the signs removed is to have a bunch of folks (they might scoff at one person, but if a dozen or more tells them that they won't be buying there, that's a lot of sales to lose) call them and inform them that they will do car shopping elsewhere. Those who keep the signs are either the anti-gun zealots or they are horribly afraid of disgruntled customers (in which case you might want to think twice about shopping there anyway).

Not that I've noticed, but I've never had a new car, or one close to new. I get mine at the mom and pop used car lots where the sales floor is normally a singlewide trailer.

I predict that the signs will eventually loose favor in Ohio. When Kentucky's concealed law went into effect, I saw the darned signs everywhere even though they have no real legal force (they can ask you to leave and if you refuse they can press trespassing charges).
Over time, I have seen less and less of those signs to the point where I can go months without actually seeing one. I think that the companies realize that, even if CCDW holders are a small percentage of clients, they are loosing money by excluding them. I also think - more of a hope - that they realized that the signs were somewhat ridiculous as "gun free zones" are simply easier targets.
