I just bought a Remington 700 SPS in 308 and i took it out to shoot for the third time today. Its scoped with a tasco target/varmint and i think its to weak for the recoil. I have had to rezero the scope 4 times and still the groups are moving around. I don't think its me because im only zeroed at 100 yards and the groups are too tight (1.24in) and too consistant. Thanks.

What kind of barrel is it? If its a mountain weight barrel(very thin+light) it may be heating up quickly.

Also did you secure the mounting screws with any kind of thread lock?

its a vary thin barrel and i took it to get mounted. I don't know if its locktighted.

It is on a rest with a rear bag right?

Does the scope have an adjustable objective? Sounds like the parallax could be off. Put the rifle on a rest and on target. Don't touch the rifle and look through the scope while moving your head around a bit. If the cross hair moves on the target, the parallax is not set for 100 yards. Take the target to 200 then and see what happens.

You might have a nice and fairly consistent hold during the group shots, but then when you stop for a moment to reload, you might be holding it a bit different, just enough to view the scope at a slightly different angle.

Does this rifle have sights on the barrel? Can you have sights installed? If the answer to either question is "yes", then no, you don't need a new scope.

A hot barrel shoots very differently than a cold barrel. Try shooting every couple a minutes as well to practice cold bore shots. Your taking it hunting correct? Well pretty much all your shots are cold bore.

BOW CEFUS shoot one three shot group every 20min and see if the groups are still going all over the place.

if your groups are that tight, I would first make sure the mounts and rings are nice and tight. try again. if still no good, put it on a 223 or something with less kick, to see if it still moves. I have several of those scopes, and have never had a problem. I also had that same scope on a Parker Hale ultra lite, in 308, and it didn't move zero for over the 2 years I had the rifle.

Also , wait 1 full minute, between shots, so the bbl is just warm, USE YOUR WATCH!!! 5 shot groups. I don't think you need to wait 20 mins between groups. 5 mins should do just fine, if you are waiting the 1 full minute between shots.

You mean, the scope has a 100 yard marking? Those are usually not dead on...but its probably not too off either. Zero the dial and adjust it while moving your head and not touching the rest of the rifle. When the cross hair stops moving around, check if you are on the 100 yard marking.

But it might not be parallax causing the problem anyways.
