OK, I have like three questions... (may develop into more)...

1st. A friend and I both picked up the Remington 700 SPS V in .308,

He went to the range Monday I think it was with another guy and they said they got the scope dialed in pretty tight... At like 75 yards (longest shooting position at this range)...

By bench resting it, He said he was able to hit the center ring on the target and keep really tight consistent groupings...

However the last 6 rounds he shot, still seemed tight, but were about 3" low... Still consistent, just 3" low now...

The question is what would cause this change??? Barrel Warp-age , Dirty Barrel, scope flaked and lost its zero?

Which leads me into my next question...

How much shooting would warp the barrel on this gun?

I mean its a varmint barrel, Bolt action and only holds like 4 rounds... So, its not like he was rapid firing it or anything...

I figured it'd be good to know...

Lastly, we were looking at buying some bulk ammo online from like ammo man.com, could you safely shoot 7.62 x 51? in the .308 Remington?

What are the caveats???

.308 does not produce enough pressure and heat to create barrel warpage or any major damage to the throat to cause major accuracy loss like you are talking about.

I would put the problem off the top of my head as #1 Ammunition, #2 shooter, #3 scope/scope mounts. In that order.

------
you can shoot 7.62x51 in a .308. It is NOT SAFE to shoot .308 in a 7.62x51 rifle. The pressures rated by the commercial .308 is greater than those qualifying 7.62.

:)

Ditto on scope or mounts unless he got the barrel warm enough to change zero. No, you won't warp it, but a barrel may shoot differently hot or cold.

i check to see if the barrel is free floating, try to stick a piece of paper between the stock and barrel, if u cant and it wont slide between them, u may wnat to take some wood off the channel, but check the scope mounts and screws also.
