Do these sound like fair trades to you?

To be clear, I am NOT trading them here but will use a local CA gun forum

I've made the decision to harmonize my semi auto firearms down to one brand. There is nothing wrong with the ones I own. They all run fine. Rather than sell them, I'm planning to do face to face trades with all the required paperwork. Do the trades sound reasonable to you? I've never done this before and would like your feed back. Thanks for the feedback.

I have the original boxes and parts and am the original owner. All have less than 1,000 rounds through them. Shotgun probably has 200 rounds through it.

Own a XD 5" tactical in 45 ACP and want to trade it for a Glock 30SF. I had SPringfield install XS sights.

Own a XD 5" tactical in 9 mm and want to trade it for a Glock 30SF. It will come with a total of 8 CA 10 round magazines. Also has Springfield install TFO sights as well as over travel adjustment on it.

Own a new (not WW I or WW II era) Springfield GI model 1911 and want to trade it for a Glock 30SF. I bought about seven years ago and have never fired it.

Own a Mossberg 930 SPX semiauto and want to trade it for a Mossberg 590A1. Had a talented local gun smith shorten to 13" LOP. Also has a Mesa side saddle on it.

I'm a little confused. You say you want to trade your current guns (all Springfield Armory), so you have just one brand (all Glock), but what you want in return on each trade is the same gun (Glock 30SF). Please explain.

A Springfield 1911 for a Glock? Heresy!

Also, the 1911 is worth more as is the 9mm with 8 mags. I'm also confused as to why you want to trade for the same model glock.

I have other Glocks. The reason I am getting the same model is that in CA, we have a list of approved guns that must meet a drop test showing they are safe. Other items have been added onto the list (serial number must be stamped on ever brass or primer fired from the pistol) basically making it impossible for any new model gun to appear. Those that are on the list are grandfathered and don't need to be updated. However, even a subtle change to the finish can result in a grandfathered gun falling off the list.

Basically, a Glock 30SF is my carry pistol and I'm trying to build up an inventory of them so that I will have a lifetime supply and never run the risk of running out. I know they won't wear out from use. I need to consider things such as having a dedicated training pistol I can be abusive to, loosing one, having one stolen, using one in a self defense situation and never getting it back.

This is a problem unique to CA. The ones I'm trading were pistols I bought in the context of self defensive pistols. There is nothing indicating Glocks will fall off the list. I'm just reading tea leaves and want to be prepared. I should point out that popular Ruger and S&W semi auto models for self defense have indeed fallen off the list so I am not wearing a tin foil hat when I mention my concern.

I do know the ones with higher magazines ought to result in ideally someone who makes an offer with more than two mags. Yes, I like the 1911 but I don't plan to use it for self defense.

I hope this helps.

also if the world ends its good to have extras of the exact same gun..

Sorry OP dont have an idea about trade values, but you can just go to gunbroker to look them up.

Except for night sights I dont think you will get your money back on the customizations.

A lifetime supply of any firearm is one.
The 13" LOP will be an issue for trading. Easily fixed with a recoil pad though.
Aftermarket sights don't matter. A bunch of extra mags certainly does, but it also means you either need to sell 'em separately or get an equal number of Glock mags as part of the trade. New SD mags run about $30 each. About $25 each for 10 round Glock 30 mags.

A fair trade would be one where both parties are satisfied with the items they got.

If you get three Glocks for each Springfield then you have it about right !

Can you tell I'm not a Glock fan ?

To address your question however I have to do a + 1 on joem 1945 's reply. All within the ball park, simply a matter of finding a satisfied trade partner.

Thanks for the explanation. At least there is method to your madness (not a judgmental statement just that Shakespeare had the right idea when he wrote that). I don't know if you'll get a trade on your guns straight up but it's worth a try. I just can't see having a "lifetime supply" of the same gun. Sounds too boring to me, even given the constraints you have to live with in California. I like variety in my guns; from revolvers to semi-autos. Also I have guns now that I shoot regularly and are 40+ years old and most likely will go on working reliably long after I'm gone. just my opinion but to me life's too short to be saddled to just one gun.

Thanks folks. I do have a few other range, social shooting pistols. I'm just harmonizing the self defense pistol I carry. I'm not so pragmatic as to swap everything. I've been shooting now for 35 years and have been blessed to have shot lots of different firearms. At this point, I don't feel the need to have as much variety.

Just curious too. Why are looking to trade the 930 SPX for the 590A1. At least in terms of dollars signs the 930 SPX is a pricier gun

I bought it and didn't care for it. It runs fine just not my cup of tea. I love the 590a1 (spent 8 days in various training classes with it in 2014 and have taken many training classes with 500/590s over the years. I would just rather have a back up to the 590a1 I already use for home defense.

Ehhhh?
You might be really wrong about that.

Not even California is that crazy, yet.

It has been proposed, but so far is not law.

And no Glock or other gun is capable of doing that either.

Sorry RC but only guns grandfathered on the list are exempt. A law was passed in 2007 for micro-stamping and in 2013 tunge CA attorney General said texhnology was available for use. Below is the official memo from CA attorney general.

Moving out of CA is not likely possible for me for a number of reasons.
