I spent a third of my childhood growing up in the Asian Pacific, Guam, Philippines, Wake and Taiwan. I don't remember us having a TV until I was in junior high and I still didn't watch it. As an adult I didn't buy my first TV until I was in my late 20s and that was for the wife. Lost my wife of 34 years to cancer in 2020 and the TV hasn't been turned on since.
I'll go you one better. I grew up in Texas and my parents never had a TV until I was grown up and out on my own. I never watched TV until after I was married and we bought a small TV. I think it had a 14" screen and we could get two stations. Of course TV was B&W back in those dark ages. How things have changed yet with all the content available today most of it is still junk.
No, I do not admire guns while killing time during commercials. I HAVE been known to keep a book in my lap and read during a commercial. In fact it is something I do frequently because of the number and length of today's commercials.
