Pretty simple question. Do you have fun shooting boomers 7mm Rem Mag, .300 Win Mag, and above, or do you find the recoil too distasteful?

My favorite shooting is the big loud stuff. My prayer will be answered the day I get to lay down some .50 rounds. I do use a bench rest and a padded shoulder shooting vest with the big-un's to be able to control some of the recoil.

340 weatherby, 338 win mag, 300 win mag, 7mm rem mag.
It depends on what the word "enjoy" means.
I've since downsized to 7mm rem mag as the heavyest caliber.

Typically no but I do like shooting the .50 BMG with a good brake on it (bringing it down to the equivalent of a .308 recoil). My shoulder is too wimpy for big magnums these days but I'm told the metal parts are very shiny.

Although not a big magnum, take a hot loaded 45-70 in a Ruger #1, Browning/winchester 1885 Hi wall and see what it does for the fillings in your teeth!!!!!! Makes a 300 win mag feel like a pussy cat!!!!!!!! Never shoot one from a prone position. Can you say broken collar bone?????

no, but i sure like watching other people shoot them.

*I do like shooting 50bmg, but it's not really a magnum

I shoot the origional magnum 50-90 sharps.

I broke my tooth on the 50-90!

But if we are talking the real magnums I shot a 600 Nitro Express 1 time Had a serious headache for 5 days! Never again!

8mm Mauser and 30-06 WAS my comfort level up to my last eye exam when the Doc told me to lay off things with much recoil as I am at high risk of retina detachment. :what: Sold off all > .22 but kept the big pistols as I don't lock my elbows when I shoot anyway.

They are a bit too much for me but I wouldn't take one to the range a run a box of ammo through one anyway. Don't have any use for one down here in Texas. The deer and hogs here are just as dead with a 7mm-08 as they are with a 7mm mag.

.458 Win mag & 375H&H in Ruger #1's. Hardest kicking is a Marlin 1895 Cowboy in 45-70 with hotter loads.

A blow to the head can cause retina detachment. Heavy recoil jars your whole upper body. I have known people who have experienced it (retina detachment), granted, they shot a LOT more high-power than I did, but it's a risk I'd rather not take.

I have to qualify my answer. I really enjoy the big magnums, but since my spinal surgery, I have to reduce the frequency.

I can shoot warm reloads all day out of my 7mm without issue. The .300 wm I had would put a hurtin on me after 10 or 15 rounds.

I do enjoy shooting them from time to time, but only in small doses. Overall I am not bothered by recoil, but I don't just enjoy it either. If I can do the same thing with a 30-06 that I can do with joe's 666 supermulekickinmag, then I would just as soon use the 30-06. If I really need the extra pop then bring out the shoulder cannon and let me roll.

i had a 300 & 340 wby, they were too brutal for shooting at the bench for a couple of hours.unless you have a brake,it is not fun after a few rounds.to me,7mm mag & below is fun & managable.once you get into the 300's & above, unless you hunt big game, they are too much for me in recoil & expense.i only target shoot,so why kill myself with a 300 when a 30-06 or 22-250 is fine.....

Biggest I have is a 7 mag, but used to have fun shooting a .375H&H. Recoil never bothered me and, though my testosterone levels are dropping, I can still handle the magnums. Never got into the express cartridges, but I ain't skirt. LOL

My friends .300 Win Mag has less recoil than my 7 mag, but it's a big, heavy, gas operated Browning BAR. Sweet gun, though, and very accurate.

i had a 338 ultra mag
after i bought a box of ammo......$70
i sighted the scope in 6 or 7 shots can't remember......it kicked like a mule on crack.......costed a arm and a leg to shoot.....i made a few phone calls and traded it for a nice 1911
man was i happy to trade!

I don't own any magnum-caliber rifles, though I've enjoyed shooting those owned by others. Perhaps that's the reason why.
