When you're carrying a mouse gun in your pocket instead of your normal belt rig?

I don't know if imposter is the correct term, but I sure know I feel different when circumstances force the change upon me. To my mind there's enough differences to really skew your perceptions when in the alternate mode. Different draw, usually caliber/effectiveness considerations, and altering the normal pocket junk placement. I'm thinking of trying something like a Sneaky Pete type belt holster rather than pocket carry. At least there will be some commonality in the draw. Though I suppose I won't know if that method will be any better, just have to pay my nickle & test it out.

Not at all. Pocket carry is my usual method. Depending on the size and shape of the pocket, the weapon could be a KelTec .32, or it could be a .38sp Rossi revolver or a PA-63 in 9mm Mak. They're stuffed with good SD rounds and I don't feel undergunned with any of them.

Due to the heat here in central Florida, and also due to my vertically challenged stature, I find other carry methods impractical most of the time. Once in a while I'll use a belt pouch, but techniques that require a cover garment don't work well for me. Neither does IWB carry.

I do wish Florida would legalize OC, though. I wouldn't use it much, but it'd sure be convenient when I'm on one of the horses. Drawing from a pocket on horseback is very awkward.

I hear I'm gonna find out in the next few months. The pizza delivery job at which I work one night per week is reportedly changing uniforms to one that is worn with the shirt tucked in. This will eliminate my current OWB-carry practice of my Kel-Tec PF9. I'll likely have switch to my P32 in a front pocket (like Ed. N., I'm also in steamy Florida.)

I do pocket-carry that P32 while on my way to and from my no-carry FT work site, but never gave it much thought, since it's rare I stop anywhere else during that travel.

Purely as a last resort, it's a defensible personal choice. When everything else fails: avoiding the situation, defusing the situation, retreating from the situation. In the unlikely case someone overpowers you and starts slamming your head on the concrete, you may be glad to have it.

I am personally familiar with a case where the victim was a pizza delivery driver. A shot fired from a pocket handgun ended his life. Rare as it happens, I'd consider your job elevated risk (not the highest, only one of many) You are right to be vigilant and, as a last resort, legally armed.

I pocket carry my LCP as I speak and think nothing of it.
Except those who know me close no one else even knows I am carrying.
Fwiw I use to carry a my micro 380 in one of those cell phone style BullDog pouch holsters.
It certainly keeps the pistol lint free and does not take a lot of practice to get good drawing from either.

Sounds like your discomfort with the small pistol is making your situational awareness much more of what it should be all of the time! Consider that a blessing.

Don't let your trust of your primary gun lull you into being complaisant.

YZ, I certainly appreciate the concern. This is something I've done off and on for more than two decades. It is indeed with risk. I myself have been set up many times, but have always been able to self-extract before anything went down, after recognizing the signs of intended malice. I've also known others to have been robbed, and two that were pistol-whipped. This job has a very high level of risk; more pizza drivers are targeted for felonious assault each year than are police officers.

Having a law-enforcement background, I like to refer to my current delivery style as "how a cop would deliver pizzas."

You know they make belt holsters for smaller pistol as well right?

Belt carry is not the monopoly of service pistols.

Since I pocket carry 100% of the time, I find it to be the norm, not the exception. I wear cargo shorts 51/52 weeks a year, and until I lose some more weight, pocket carry is what works

I have two different concealed carry modes and I definitely prefer one over the other. The non-preferred method allows me more latitude in my mode of dress but definitely compromises what I can carry. It also makes accessing the gun much slower.

The only reason I would feel like an "imposter" is because when I pocket carry I am usually dressed much nicer than my normal ie business suit or tux over my regular T-shirt and jeans. So yes when I pocket carry I feel like an imposter, but it isn't because of what is in my pocket and not on my waist.

Having things be as much the same as possible is always important, but when that's not possible don't neglect the need to carry.

Imposter?

No. The handgun is a means to defend myself, just a means. There are other means to.

I do not measure my self by the size of my handgun or by what I can do with my handgun (but with my other 'gun' that's another matter.)

You could get a tuckable in the waistband holster then you could carry any caliber you like.
Pocket carry isn't always the most comfortable depends on the gun and pant combo

My pocket gun is usually my primary, and this gives me absolutely no concern. If one feels "under-armed" perhaps they need to practice more. :uhoh:

Not me. I only carry a big handgun during the very short periods in winter where I don't look strange wearing heavy clothing around here. Pocket carry 90% of the time, although my mouse gun is usually a PM45.

Not really. I've found that the ease of slipping the LCP or CM40 into my pocket makes it where I don't carry the bigger guns (G23, G30, etc) nearly as often. I may pack them, but find myself more often than not just leaving them in the car and taking the smaller gun (with a reload in the other pocket) with me.
