Do you get angry when the shooter next to you has a bigger BOOM than you?

I think their braggishness was more of an irritation to you that the actual noise.

Usually I am the one with the loudest noise makers at a range, M44, Mauser etc... until one day I met MR 300 Weatherby. I heard this loud boom followed by a soundwave which I could feel all over my body. I placed my rifle down and waited till range was clear and asked my neighbor what sort of rifle he was shooting. He even let me fire a round out of it.

Man I love range experiences; never had a bad one!

It's not the size that counts
It's the hitting the right spot.

But if I do want loud, I'll shoot my 6-pounder howitzer.

I was that guy one day with the loud gun annoying the lady next to us. I see nothing wrong with shooting with in the rules for the range. It does not bother me a bit when someone else has a handcannon.

our trip to the range was funny. I arrived with my brother on a saturday morning/afternoon to shoot his SRH .44mag and some of my guns. We were assigned the line next to a older couple who were shooting scoped .22lr pistols. They were seated and taking their time. We started off with the .22,9mm,40S&W. Then my brother let me shoot the .44mag. The lady never said anything to us about it but they stoped shooting and gave us an evil look. If you want a quite range go during the week when no one is there. On the same trip I did get a few guys kicked out who were walking around sweeping people with loaded guns. They would load the mags and insert them away from the firing line and then walked to the line. Now loading mags off of the line is fine, just leave the darn gun on the line....:cuss:

Only if it's REALLY annoying, like the guy with the .45acp High Point pistol with the muzzlebrake. At least he couldn't get more than a couple of consecutive shots without a malfunction of some sort.

Most of the people in my club are bullseye target shooters and try to be courteous towards others.

When I had my "limited war" with S&W and was test firing my Model 29, I used to always either wait until everybody else was done shooting, or ask to shoot first when firing a few Winchester White Box 240gr. magnums.

A guy in some forum simply couldn't understand why I would show any measure of courtesy to my fellow club members that way...

Are you sure you are all gun owners? Guns go BOOM so yes they are going to be loud. Yes, I am that guy at the range with the "uber-magnum", as others put it, who is also putting bullet hole in bullet hole. It is a gun range, get used to the noise. I shoot for precision, and other big guns going boom don't affect me. Go to the range more often, get used to it. One day your life may depend on you being able to shoot accurately while other big guns are going boom around you.

Last time at the indoor range we're enjoying some quite time with some friends: 9, .40, .357, .44, .45 Colt, etc. Then from 4 bays down, someone unloaded a hand cannon. Quite a flash, with a report that shook the building. It looked to be a 6 - 8 inch stainless revolver with a cylinder worthy of a 20mm.

The two mullet-headed buffoons obviously enjoyed the attention their toy initially provided. However, it became immediately apparent that they could not hit the broadside of a planet with it: one shot in ten into the 2 x 3 foot target at 25 yards will not make you big man on the line. They were also deathly afraid of their cannon, with flinches that brought smiles up and down the line. Pretty much ignored after the first three rounds, they left for their trailer after twenty. I'm going to bet their atomic cannon never leaves the shoebox again.

Too much money, too much gunpowder, too little sense.

Yesterday I had my first experience with a Mosin-Nagant M44. The guy was five stations down and I still felt the blast! Boy am I glad I bought an M-39 instead (He ran out of ammo before I could go and schmooze him into a test fire. Rats!).
The first time I took my .22 cal rifle to an indoor range I only took earplugs, and then some guy three lanes down lit off one of the big thumpenblitzer pistols. After that I always used earplugs AND muffs.
Your neighboring shooters help you with concentration, you know.
The startle reflex is brother to the flinch and has to be drilled out, too.

I find my girlfriend nagging me while shooting way more distracting. Then she wonders why I never take her.

I kind of like it for training purposes. Helps me practice keeping my concentration in a live fire situation.

Boom Envy?

The only time I ever felt even a little bit of it was on an outdoor range. I was shooting my 5"54cal when my buddy opened up with his 16". He was about 2000 yards off and the concussion still rattled my chair. :what: I wanted to shoot his toys but you had to be stationed on the Missouri before they let you do that. I had to settle for the little toys on my ship.:p The range was off the coast of California and was one of the last cruises for USS Missouri.:(

i was never bothered by the noise ,but I where earplugs and muffs ! Ihave recently been the loud guy ,since I got my .454 SRH ! The first time I went to the indoor range I was stationed at 18 ,up against the wall on the right 1 When I fired 3 rounds in a row then stopped the ,range was quiet ! ii stepped back out of the booth and everyone was looking at me !Plus a couple of the adjacent targets had fallen down ! oops !I try to be more courtious than that !

The thunder doesn't bug me... its where that lightning bolt is headed, that's the kicker.

I love loud sometimes and other times I just ignore it.
If I have my BFR 45/70 with me then I'm usually the guy making all the noise.

Some folks on our OUTDOOR firing line have a tough time with the blast from my SOCOM 16. Then I pull out the Mag-Na-Ported .375 Hollands for a few rounds and receive compliments regarding my "quiet" SOCOM.

I do try to be civil, shooting from one or the other end spots. From the breech end, neither of these is unusually loud but some folks do accuse me of having spent way too much time on artillery ranges for my own good. :scrutiny: ;)

The M44 seems to be king of the castle

It's my loudest firearm for sure, and my hardest kicking rifle.

For awhile, I had to give one of my buddy's that just recently got into shooting a hard time about being scared to shoot it. I kept telling him that you are not supposed to wear skirts out to the range. Finally he got over it and after shooting it the first time he's now dying to get one.

(Ladies, please don't take offense to the skirt remark because I said this when my girlfriend, who weighs 110 lbs soaking wet was out there shooting it and she laughed and agreed.)

Any fool can make a lot of noise. But, can they literally drive a tack at 50 yards with a .22LR? Can they un-cap a pop bottle at 100 yards?

My Dad could snuff out a cigarette with a pistol if that counts for anything, at least he used to be able to. Finally joined a gun range, Cocalico Sportsmens to be exact, I don't think I'll mind the noise too much.

i get mad not because i'm jealous or because i think i got out-BANGed, but because its just to freakin annoying!

Angry, no, but I'd certainly prefer not to be subjected to hand-cannon noise at my local indoor ranges. Shooting is more pleasant and productive when I'm not worrying about my hearing. (I always use both plugs and muffs.)

For those who think the BOOM noise is annoying; There are those out there who feel that YOUR gun noise is annoying and would have you stop shooting so they can more easily enjoy life.

It is a gun range; it is noisy.

The M44 seems to be king of the castle

Yep my buddy I take shooting calls it the hand cannon.
