I've been keeping a Charles Daly EMS stainless .45 in the center console of my truck for over a year. In addition to my CCW.

When sitting in the drivers seat it is very difficult to get to my concealed firearm. I figured if something bad is going to happen it will be at a traffic light or in a parking lot.

I'm curious as to how others others here feel about car guns.

I keep my Colt Gov't .45 in my car when I'm traveling or running to the atm. Since I can't ccw yet, I don't take it with me if I'm going to be leaving my car in a parking lot for more than a few minutes, especially if its out of my view. I either keep it in my center consol, glove box, or wedged between the driver and center seat in a cheap uncle mike's holster.

I previously kept my Sigma .40 in the center console any time I left town. I just traded that for a Ruger Blackhawk .357mag last weekend though so I don't know if I'll ever put that in the center console.

I have a Bulgarian Makarov in the center console of my truck. Still trying to decide what will go in the car, maybe S&W mdl 60.

Nope. I have to go into DC too often, and at a moment's notice for work. I also find myself in places where the armed guards check your vehicle, including having you raise the hood.

I would keep a car gun, but my wife and I switch vehicles all the time. She doesn't have a carry permit and I would hate for her to get caught with one in the glove box. I believe that is a felony in Utah.

I have a cut down Mini-14 w/ a folding stock behind my seat in the truck along with a few 30 rd mags. Not to worry folks, the barrel is 16.5 inches and legal. Whenever I get into my truck I remove my carry weapon and place it into the center console for easy access. Right before I exit the vehicle I reholster my carry weapon.

I had a lock box fabricated that bolts to the floor under the seat of my truck. When I step out of the truck the weapon is in the lock box. With the location of the box and the way it's locked you can't get a bolt cutter on it to cut the lock. I'd be easier to steal the truck than the gun, and the truck wouldn't be easy. ;)

Whatever you carry

make sure it is not in conflict with your CCW. Here in KA, we have the CCW gun SPECIFIED by model and serial number. You DON'T want to have a different gun stashed that is not on the CCW.

For auto carry, it is hard to beat a combo locking hard briefcase with enough padding that the gun does not flop around. The case can be just snapped shut most of the time and in the event of being stopped, the combo can be spun to lock it absolutely. That way, you stand a good chance of their needing a warrant to inspect it and unless you are two wheeling away from a bank robbery site, they probably won't. Conservative clothing also is a help. At the very least, you will get a chance to have your lawyer's advice before the thing has to be opened.

Chancy carrying in car unless legal to do so. My favorite was a Stevens O/U .22-.410. Useful, but not expensive if a thief got it. And a very innocuous gun to have. Very un-threatening although a .410 will do just about any DEFENSE thing you can think of. Trunk was location. Now just carry the CCW and keep doors locked. I can get it fast enough.

None of this applies if you are entering a specific security zone. Especially if it is not public property.

Gun violations can lose ALL your gun rights. Gotta weigh the risk.

My jeep has a 1911 in the console and a NEF 45-70.
My pickup has a Ruger Vaguero between the seats.

(my pickup actually has lots of things....;) )

I used to always keep a Springfield and 5 mags in a heavy ziplock bag under the spare wheel in my car. More for always having a 1911 to play with even when I wasn't carrying one rather that for easily-accessed defensive purposes.

The only guns I have in my car now are either on my person or on the way to the range.

I've never understood this one. What difference does it make WHAT gun you carry, so long as you are authorized? It would be like requiring that you specify a make and model of car on your driver's license.

I keep a iver johnson (ppk clone) in the little pocket built into the door of my truck, it fits in there nice and its a very reliable and accurate gun, and cheep enough that i'm not out much if someone steals it. Plus its handy if i decide to carry, i just slip it into my pocket.

I don't like the idea of leaving a gun in an unattended vehicle. Around Northern Virginia, there's a reasonable expectation that it will get ripped off or broken into, and I don't see the point in arming the thuglets.

I do often carry in a paddle holster so it's easy to slip off and drop into the console to drive.

Believe me, I do NOT like the "specified guns" rule.

It DOES make sense to carry whatever is convenient for the climate, destination, risk, etc.

BUT......dat's de law.

AND......we can't carry anything under .380 cal. I used to carry my Beretta .25 in an ankle holster for dress occasions.

I have now weeded my carry guns to two J frames. A M36 in .38 spl. that drops unseen into a pocket if needed and a 640 in .357 for when I know I can keep it covered. Funny how that extra quarter inch and longer grips takes up SO MUCH ROOM.

They both shoot fine and are very accurate and reliable. Stuck with em anyhow for carry guns. Took off the Glock 30 cuz it was just too big.

Even though it WAS almost the best small gun I have ever had.

The other BITCH in the law is that EACH gun has to be qualified on the range. Get tired after a while of paying to fire a whole arsenal every year. Annual qual is also required. Can carry up to four.

2 guns = less hassle.

My center console includes a $20 BB pistol in an El Cheapo holster. In a hurry and/or in the dark, it looks pretty "real". The last guy who broke into my truck in the middle of the night stole one just like it. ;)

Depending on what I am driving that day, one of the two below.

Lightly tricked out Argie 1927 45acp in the center console and a MAK-90 AK in the rear.

Lightly tricked out Argie 1927 45acp between the seats and a Armalite 180 behind the seat.

H&R 12 bore in the boot and soon to be joined by a hawes 22 mag revolver. With these two guns I can take care of any wilderness needs I would have and the hawes is just fun to shoot. If it's a personal protection issue I don't know anyone who would want to stand in front of any kind of 12 bore single shot or not! A dbl 12 would be better but you don't find them about for $25.

Springfield 1911 and a spare mag on me, Glock 29 in the truck (with a carry holster and spare mag).
