Do you keep a "truck gun"?

I might carry a Taurus .45 caliber pistol in its case in the center of my van. I have for years. I carry it for two legged varmints since I work all over the place and all hours of the day. Never had a problem yet.

My current truck guns are: Remington model 7 in .223 and 50 rounds of ammo behind the seat, along with a Mossberg 500 12 ga. and two boxes of shells.

And I keep a S&W model 64 4" stainless .38 spl. with 2 speedloaders and 50 rounds of ammo in the console. (my Dodge has a big console)
They are all loaded and ready to use. (An unloaded gun is a club.)

If these wont take care of any situation I might encounter, then I'm somewhere I should not be to start with.

Both rows of rear seats in my Suburban are down. I have a 2 gun holder that straps to the rear of the front seats. A S&W M&P Sport 5.56 and Remington 870 12ga live there.

1911 in the console.

All are loaded.

I work in Memphis. The rule is this...don't keep anything in your car that you don't want stolen. Thats it. If it's in your car...it will be stolen. So no...I don't ever leave a gun in my truck.
I would move.

I keep handgun. Yes you need to be concerned about drinking, but you do with carry gun too. I keep case in the truck. You have to have someone drive your vehicle someday. You get in accident.

When I'm in my truck I have a truck gun, its also my yard gun, one of my house guns. I ALWAYS carry, yes even at home. Used to keep a high point 9mm carbine in my truck, never used it (except to plink) so I moved it to my bedroom.

I don't have a truck anymore, but I did recently mod an existing rifle to be my car rifle. I don't take it everyday, but it was modified to fit in a small space even if my car is full of people and luggage.

It is a .22 WMR and holds 18 rounds in the stock, 10 rounds in the two mags in the butt cuff, and 5 in the mag in the receiver.

Chicharrones, nice, very nice. I may have to copy that.

I don't have a truck gun, per se, but I do have a holstered backpack gun and if I have the backpack with me, I'm in my truck and usually at the farm. The backpack gun is a Dan Wesson 22 with a 6" barrel. I got it for the dog pack and varmints (skunks, possums, racoons, etc) that cross our path on occasion. So far I've shot a skunk at 25 yards with it. The dog pack is the big concern; the lead dog is vicious and looks to be part pit bull. (I don't want to shoot anybody's dog but I've warned the owner that I will put him down the next time he comes at me or my family on our ground. If I need something bigger, I've always got my SR9 with me.)

Norwegian Krag 6.5 X 55 mm. 18 inch barrel which is too short but they way it was. Williams aperture sight. No big loss if stolen but handy for the kind of predators we have here.

I used to carry a Tula made SKS in the truck but it was stolen.

I also drive a 1942 Chevrolet G506 1 1/2 ton for some farm work. Often thought of a Browning 1919 behind the cab but probably not practical.

The Illinois Supreme Court ruled a couple of years ago that an unloaded, un-cased handgun, in the glove box, is legal transportation. The ammo, loose or in magazines, must be elsewhere, but in the driver's compartment is still legal. Into the glove box went my 7.62X25 Tokarev! The mags, loaded with steel jacketed Polish Surplus ammo are in the center console.

That stuff penetrates cars better than anything else I have ever tried!

3 vehicles
Each has a lockbox in the trunk with a DA 9mm, extra mags. Glock, Keltec and Astra
Key to the box is on the key ring. These are backups to my pocket pistol

For rough country - rural or urban - I keep a SU-16 in its short case, with loaded mags, in the trunk

Tried it a couple times, but it just makes me too nervous to leave a firearm unattended.
If I did, it would be a handgun of some sort.

There won't be a truck for a while. The Camry gun is the Sig 232, until the right holster is found.

Let's just be frank. A specific motivation right now is due to recent clusters of Memphis punks forming a small mob and punching people.

I usually have a scoped Tikka T3 lite in .223 behind the rear seat of my 4-door pickup in a thick padded case left unzipped. Sometimes we get long shots at coyotes or come upon a badger. I keep a scabbard in the horse trailer that fits the same rifle like a glove.

None of my guns are throwaways. I don't find it reasonable to keep a quality (i.e., expensive) gun habitually in a vehicle. Vehicles get stolen or broken into. Why compound your loss by having the gun taken as well?

I once sold a Browning watercooled machine gun to a guy who kept it in the trunk of his car. Not too surprisingly, the car was broken into and the gun was stolen. If it hadn't been for the involvement of the ATF (they go bananas over stolen machine guns), the gun probably would never have been recovered. The guy eventually got his gun back, but not the spare barrel that was with it.

I dont have a dedicated beater long gun anymore, but my beater Glock 19 works well for the car/truck gun role.

I used an AK for a beater/trunk/truck/camp gun for a while, but money got tight...

At the moment, its my 5.56 AR or Mossberg 590 that gets tossed in the trunk if I take a long gun.

I don't have a truck. I do carry a low end, but dependable 9mm in my car. I don't like the idea of a high end one left in my car.

I have two trucks and the wife has a Tahoe. Right now, they all have scoped AR15s in them, along with spare mags. In the Tahoe, it's in a Pelican in the back, it's more of an emergency thing. In my 97 F250, it's just laying in the bench seat next to the stick. In my 09 F350, it's stuck in the split between the driver's seat and the console.

You never can tell when you're going to come across a coyote, hog, or something else that needs shooting, so they're all hot. And as someone else stated, you never know when you're going to come across a miscreant in the middle of nowhere.

I live in the country, and when I make it to town I usually know half the people I see, so I guess I look at life a little differently than most, but I can't see the logic of being more worried about thieves equaling being less likely to carry a longarm.

Ruger LH M77 30-06 behind the seat, Glock 10mm in the glove box. My truck spends most of its time at the farm where I might need to shoot a big animal.

I think it depends more on where you live than anything else. Some places it's just not safe to leave a gun in your car unattended. If you did it in NYC, back when I lived there and carried, "25 yrs ago" you would get in a load of trouble if someone stole your vehicle with a gun in it.
Down here in FL it's more accepted, but in places like Miami, it is almost like being back in the Bronx, or Brooklyn. There is a high chance that a nice car, or truck, in a bad neighborhood will get broken into. I don't want that on my conscience, that someone got shot with a gun that I left in a car.

I usually have a 94 Winchester in the truck, something larger if going up where the bears hang out.

Havent heard much about vehicles being broken into around there. Not really many people. When I happen upon someone, its often folks I know. I usually go several months out at the spot I walk the dog and not seen anyone else there.
