Do you know "Gun Club Guy"?

This guy, and his 10,000 identical clones are the reason why i do my shooting at 9am. These fellows usually dont roll out of bed untill the afternoon.

A couple weeks ago i made the mistake of going shooting in the late afternoon. I was sandwiched between one gentleman MISSING a B27 at 9 FEET with a remington 870, and another fellow who brought ten guns and couldnt shoot any of them worth a damn. This was one of those guys that starts off with a small gun at 5 yards, BADLY misses the black and solves his problem by graduating up to a larger gun and moving the target further out. By the end of the day he was outright missing the target with a (really nice) 4inch model 629 at 25 yards.

I have also learned that earplugs dont just save your hearing, they save years off your life. I have started to wear both plugs and muffs, not because of the noise from firing but because they tend to drown out the INTENSLY frustrating 'advice' and 'opinions' that propagate at the firing range. I tell you, this hobby would be a lot more fun if it werent for the people :neener:

Jerks like the ones you guys have listed make it bad for us guys that really DO know everything about every gun.

I learned it all when I worked for the CIA and NSA along with the FBI. I was in Cambodia with John Kerry at Christmas time.....it is still seared in my brain (maybe that's why people tell me my brain is fried)....

When range guy won't leave me alone after a couple polite but curt requests, I usually have no patience left. I'll tell him "Well, opinions are like ___holes, everybody has one and most of them stink. I would appreciate it if you kept yours to yourself."

Even the most dense can usually pick up on that statement and get the hint.

Bigslick, that is AWESOME!!!!!

I'm a fairly young guy (25) and have a pretty good collection of C&R's. Not one to get shafted on my purchases, I like to do a bit of research on my guns before I buy them. That said, I'm no expert, but I can hold my own amongst a lot of older collectors especially when it comes to WWII German weapons.

So the other day I met "gun shop guy" in one of the local shops. He was yakking with a clerk holding a yugoslav captured K98. Being the mauser nut I am, I walked over to look at it. I hadn't had a chance to look at the receiver yet, so at that point I didn't know it was a YC K98. "Nice k98," I say.

"Oh this is no K98, my friend." ("Friend, eh?") "This is a 'produchay' 44," he says referring to the Preduzece 44 stamped on the left of the receiver. I cringed as he butchered the word. "Oh, okay, still a nice rifle, anyway." At this point he goes back to badgering the clerk as I mosey around checking out milsurps. My interest is piqued, so I keep an ear tuned to him.

This guy starts to go off in a bit of a tirade about k98's and such - the poor, bewildered, and thoroughly-uninterested clerk still standing there silently - saying something to the effect of, "anyone who says they have an honest to God K98 with all matching numbers is a liar. If they did, that gun would easily be worth $10,000!" At this point my mind flashed to the vet bringback K98 sitting in my safe which I got for the trade of an M1 Garand. Or the other one I got from an online auction for well less than $900.

Being in a spirited mood, I called him on his BS. "So you're saying the two bringbacks in my safe at home with all matching numbers in original, unsanded condition a)don't exist and b) are worth $10,000 each? What about my pair of G43's? The G41 in the safe... that one not exist either, eh?"

"uh... well... u... I...."

"Tell ya what, I'll cut ya a deal, I'll sell you my two K98's at half price. $5,000 each. Whaddaya say?"

He quickly quieted down and didn't bother me or the clerk again.

I usually don't bring up arguments like that, it just chaps my a** to hear someone spouting off absolute gibberish like that.
