Do you like to shoot the same brand or various

So, I have one gun. CZ 75 SP-01 Tactical. I got it b/c I wanted a heavy (read light recoil) gun to learn on and for home defense. Wanted the rail for laser/light attachment. Toyed with the idea of suppressing it, but after reading up on liability of a suppressor, I decided against it (for now).

So, I'll say, I'm having a great time with the SP-01 (aka spending a lot on ammo and range fees). I think I do need to change the recoil spring however as I'm not getting 100% cycles with target loads. I hope it is the spring anyway. It jams on loading, not on extracting. I think that means I need a lighter spring. If I just pull the slide back a little, it'll load. So I either need heavier loads or more shooting to break in that spring. I've only put ~600 rds through it.

Anyway, just like any addiction.....I want more. So, I'm liking the CZ (even with the jams I hope to work out), thinking of adding a second smaller one (maybe CCW, but not sure if I'm ready to carry). I'm leaning towards the PCR but maybe the Compact (or both ;)). Seems the glock is the common alternative.

So, what is everyone's thoughts on multi brand vs one brand. I get that sticking with one brand might improve my shooting, but what if that glock really sings to me?

I'm going to keep focusing on getting better with my SP-01. I'm not horrible, but by no means great. I'll never be a competition shooter. I will say I feel like I'm shooting better than my fellow indoor range shooters. I hope all these people don't have CCL!!!!! :uhoh::uhoh::uhoh:

BTW, I see at least 3 guns in my collection. Perhaps more

Cz handguns are hard to beat, your feed issue may be to using ammo with the wrong shape bullets (flat point maybe? ) or a need for a heavier return spring. I would go with another cz if you find one that meets your needs, but a glock is never a bad choice. There may be better choices than a glock, but there are lots worse! Btw, unless you have a fat wallet being addicted to cz products is painfull. Everything they make is awesome! Try shooting a glock 19 and a S&W m&p 9mm as food for thought...

What do you mean by target loads?? Are you reloading your own ammo or buying off the shelf ammo and if so what brand/load are you having issues with? How is the ejection strength/distance with the ammo you are having problems with? Have you given it a good clean and lube lately making sure you lube the frame and slide rails well?

Except for Colt 1911s I pretty much buy what I like no matter who the manufacturer is. S&W, Ruger, Beretta, SIG, Browning, CZ, Walther; they're all welcome in my house.

Thanks for the tips on other guns to try.

So, I do think the ammo shape might be affecting jam. 3 out of 4 jams I had was on "american eagle 9mm 147 grain flat point". I did have one jam on winchester target 115gr.

That said, I need to find a good defensive ammo buy and want to shoot it a lot to make sure 100% effective (aka no jams). Side note.

I am loving the feel of the CZ's, but am open to anything. The polymer guns just don't do it for me. I can't get past the 'plastic' at this point. I know they are fine, it is just me. NO ONE take offense to this.....it is just me. Are there any other full metal bodies I can try out?

If that PCR would just come into my local gun shop that would make things easier! I almost got the Compact today, but they have 10 in stock, so they must not be that popular.

I don't stick to one brand, but for defensive guns I try to stick to one trigger/action.

I have HKs, SIGs, Walthers, Colts, S&Ws and Rugers. Bouncing back and forth between brands doesn't bother me, but going from say a Striker to a DA/SA does and I can see the difference in accuracy and on a timer.

Since I'm carrying an HK LEM trigger about 90% of the time now, that's what I spend the majority of my time practicing with.

I'm a Glock guy most of the time: G43 summer CW, G19 not summer CCW & HD, G17 work and HD, G34 for 3 gun, G23 or G21 for hunting sidearm- 21 if there are bears in the area. I sometimes shoot a 1911 for fun just because. Otherwise, the only other handgun I ever shoot is my Ruger 22 pistols.

If you like steel, look at a smith 6906 or any of the other smiths of that era. Kimber and Beretta have also made several metal guns for years along with Walther Colt and even Taurus. The other thing that may be a true sickness is to find an older Smith&Wesson revolver to try out. The older guns are wonderful in fit finish and function. The new ones function. (Read what's missing there...) if you really like the CZ pattern though, look at the EAA Witness pistols. They are very high up on my short list.

I used to be a multiple brand fan until I discovered CZ.

That being said, even though I'm a huge CZ fan I carry the Shield, the RAMI p-01 and 07 are just a tad bit bulky and heavy for my CC taste.

Good news is I have a Shield and LCP, the only two CC pistols I'll ever need, so I can spend my time and money buying guns I'm interested in.

I still own 5 or 6 different brands, and there's couple of other brands I'm interested in when it comes to full sized pistols.

CZs are fine pistols. I had two, a PCR and a 75B neither of which has ever had any kind of malfunction with many different brands of Ammo.

I purchased my first Glock about a year ago and have begun replacing my 9mm pistols with Glocks because they just fit me perfectly and I like the simplicity of there design.

I tend to stick to a few brands, its rare to find one that does it all. I tend to be a Beretta 92 series guy in large part that I have the mags for that platform and don't need to spend $$$ again to feed another one.

Aside from the same operating system, training, holsters, etc. The mags get $$ over time and if another ban comes you may really want std capacity mags for a pistol and there aren't any to be had at a sane price. I remember Glock 10mm mags in the 90's being $100+ since there weren't many "pre ban" ones made before the '94 ban.

I generally buy what I like the feel of, then see how I like them over the longer run putting some rounds through them. In semi-automatic center fires, I've found that I really like all of the metal CZ 75/85/97 guns as well as a particular Mk III Browning Hi Power that has an excellent trigger and shoots really well for me. Since finding CZs a few years ago I've acquired a few of them, and I've sold my 1911 and Beretta 92SB (and an HK P2000SK that I bought on a whim but didn't even like well enough to fire it) because they were doing nothing other than laying in the safe. If I find something else I wanted to try I wouldn't hesitate to give it a shot.

CZs are great pistols though I have only one, a CZ SP01 Shadow. I like any high quality pistol regardless of manufacturer and have some from SIG, HK, Walther, and a Glock 19. I tend to shoot poly frame pistols more these days since Illinois finally allowed CCW and I got mine.

I know my Son's SP01 was a bit picky on ammo and just did not like certain loads. That was OK because I used the rest that he did not want in my P226 which is a garbage disposal for ammo.

As far as your ammo problems I would stay away from that particular 147 GR load if it does not seem to work. Try some Brass Blazer, PMC, American Eagle, or Speer Lawman in 115 and 124 gr if you can find some at reasonable prices.

SIGs are great metal frame pistols and I love mine. Pricey when new but usually good prices on nice used or CPO (certified pre owned). Beretta are also nice and looking to get an M9 some day.

Here is my CZ and what a sweet shooter. Target shot at 7 yards.

In the three decades I've been at all this, the one thing I have learned is that you just cannot go, "Oh, that's a [whatever], you use [ammo] in it.

First off, no two firearms are the same. They very.

Then, no two shooters are ever the same, either.

A (now late) buddy of mine was good with the original S&W autos, very good, really. Me, not wo much--they were just that much different from the 1911s I had learned on, so they fit me wrong.

When I get a new firearm, I go and get a selection of ammo (unless my stash has enough choices), then head off to the range, I also take a notebook with me, too. Then I work through the selection to see which FMJ seems to be best, which HP (or other specialty ammo, like boat tail rounds for rifles) work best.
(I actually now have a dilemna is that I'm going to run out of .45scp silvertips, as they are no longer even available even from the gunshow dealers---so, a new HP will be needed.)

All of which helps me buy and keep ammo. So, I know I can buy Sellier & Belliot fmj .45acp as all of those run nicely with that ammo. I can also buy the 230gr fmj from PMC, too. And I know that I have three brands of .22lr to buy, too--sigh.

When I had nines, they mostly were fed Winchester White box for economy, the desparity in accuracy was just adjusted for by cribbing from the notebook. The Glock 17 really liked Federal 125gr HydraShoks.

One brand? I have three different brands of 1911 alone...

I might be a better shooter if I focused on one platform, but I enjoy the vast variety of handguns too much to stick with just one type. So I have at least a little of dang near everything.

I like inexpensive reliable handguns. I also like SA'ish triggers.

Right now I have only two pistols, a Canik TP9SA and a Taurus PT709. The Canik has somewhere between 7-800 rounds through it and the Taurus 2-300, both with zero issues. The Taurus needs to be cleaned regularly or the trigger can hang. The Canik I think I could not have cleaned the whole time I've owned it, and definitely gets cleaned in much longer intervals, but I still clean it. It just shoots no matter what.

I would gladly buy a Glock or Sig or Walther if I could get it for a steal, but I'm happy with what I have currently. I'm more caliber specific than brand. I'm a 9mm guy myself.

EDIT - Misread the original post. As to variety of ammo - I use all sorts of different ammo. Usually I handload for my handguns, but even there I'll mix up powder/bullet combinations to match whatever I have on hand.

I like to stick to the same few brands but you don't always get what you want. If some brand is really cheap I might buy it and shoot it. But generally, Aquilla, pretty sure I spelled that wrong, Sellior & Benoit, probably did not spell that right either and Lawman can be found at very reasonable prices.

I stick with S&W revolvers and CZ's for the most part.
I'm currently looking for a P01 Omega, but I might just get a regular P01 if I can't find one soon!

1st I like desert eagles , semi autos , probably 10 different brands - 5 different 1911's .
If it does not feel right in your hands , try another till it feels right . [ from 22 to 50 A E - pistol wise ]
I pick up look at a gun at least 3 times before buying it but sometimes , I hold and buy / start paper work then and there .
As for a 9 mm for home defense - a drug-ee won't even be slowed down .
My wife carries the 380 acp for snakes in yard . I am considering a 9 with a 3 1/2 - 4 inch for her - it is getting hard to fine bullets for reloading the 380 .

I tend to like certain brands, for instance I have 4 Glocks, and 2 Springfield 1911s. No Kimbers, no XDs, no S&Ws, a half dozen Rugers, etc.

Usually if I like one, then I'll buy more.

The majority of ammo I shoot is all the same, my handloads, 45/44/223/30-06. I have a a lot of misc ammo, but it doesn't really get shot. My 30-06 does everything my 7.62x54R or .303 Brit does, and I'm too lazy to buy dies for those, so I rarely buy ammo for, or shoot 'em. I have 9mm, but I handload 45 ACPs, and that's what I shoot.

I tend to stick with Sigs or 1911 patterned guns. That said, I also have a couple of Walthers, a Glock 19, and a couple HK's. I'd say if you're willing to part with some cash, might as well branch out and expand your horizons. Who knows, you may even find something that you like better (read as you shoot it better).

Variety is the joy of life and can be applied to firearms. Shoot lots and experience how other guns perform in your hands. :) You'll develop preferences and likely buy more. The S&W 686 revolvers were my favorites followed by the 1911.

... So, what is everyone's thoughts on multi brand vs one brand. ...
When one has over 3 dozen handguns, it is natural for them to be of several different brands. ;)

Even long ago when I only had two, they were of different makes (calbers, sizes, formfactors, etc) because they had to fulfill slightly different functions.

That said, in my handgun collection (accumulation) there are a number of instances of multiples of the same make & model.

So, like you, mfer, as used to be said, I am Eat_Up_With_It ... I have just been in that condition much longer than you. :)

Enjoy!

I am a fan of models, not manufacturers. If a new model comes on the market that has characteristics that I am looking for, I will investigate further. I like my DA/SA metal guns that can be carried. My initial carry was a Sig P6, ultra reliable and good accuracy, but big for a single stack. Kept hearing the drumbeat of the S&W 3rd gen fans, and found a good deal on a 3914 and tried to replace the beefy P6 with that. While the quality, reliability, and accuracy were great, the ergo's (for me) were awful. Got rid of that and into a CZ P-01. Great quality, accuracy and ergo's. The CZ chamber makes them a little bit more finicky than the Sig or 3914, but its a minor issue for a reloader. I now have 6 more rounds than I had when carrying the others, in a smaller package than the P6. I'll shoot the finish off this thing....or until something comes along that is an improvement to it's established baseline of performance.
