where else? TN.
This was spurred by several threads recently on thins forum and others regarding people's fear of being "made".

I always try to offer some comfort to these folks by mentioning my thoughts on it, which are summed up best: Generally, nobody will notice and if they do, they are probably carrying as well.

I could personally care less if I'm made (even by an anti). It just doesn't matter to me. I'm a very open person. I don't hold back sharing my beliefs, practices or preferences.

Anyhow...

I'd like to start this discussion/poll to see if any of you notice others who are carrying concealed. Do you notice often? Never? Once? Please feel free to share stories.

Also, I'm starting a sister thread/poll to this one that deals with being on the other side of this issue: Being made. Check that one out as well because I'd love to hear some stories about being spotted. Here's the link:

Just to add my contribution, I have never noticed anyone carrying unless I already new that they carried. In public, I'm just not too concerned with looking.

No, I never notice, but then I'm not looking either.

If I'm just wearing coveralls, which I do all the time, it can be seen that I have something in my front pocket but it could be a lot of things.

Saw a couple of obvious mistakes in the last several years, but not that big a deal really.

I see people I assume are carrying because of some giveaway. I assume most people wearing photo vests or fanny packs to be carrying unless they are out on a hike somewhere.

Fanny pack in the mall? I'm thinking handgun :)

i still maintain we who own handguns should open carry.... often........ it seems these screwballs in dc are out of touch in so many ways.......... i don't think they realise how many AMERCANS there are out here..................... of course i could be wrong...................................

I live in Utah, everyone and their dog carries it seems. Maybe I notice the type then look for the print, but I would say I spot two or three a month.

I see nothing wrong with open carry but to conceal your pistol is just better to me. The attitude for me is not to be in your face about my decision to carry, only to protect myself and family if need be. If I can accomplish this without threatening the average person with my pistol then I did my part. If you make me it matter none as long as I follow the law.

Only person I would not want to make me is a thug. question is how many of them know how to see who is carrying while concealed and scan their whole surroundings for other of like mind.

and where I was raised and where I live now people open carry all the time. those places being arizona and virginia

I figure that a fanny pack is basically an OC holster that complies with legal or other requirements in certain locations. I hardly consider that to be concealed. I mean, who in hell carries a fanny pack? This isn't 1989.:)

Personally, I think that there are tactical considerations. I like pocket carry, and one reason is that, if someone threatens me with a weapon and asks for my wallet, I can reach into my pocket, draw, and fire. IWB with a cover garment? That would be harder to pull off. The element of surprise is important to me.

However, there are times when that's a non-issue, like hiking around here, where some trails are in town. I would rather not OC in some places, like the dog park area, because I don't want people to worry that I'm out looking to shoot a dog. But I don't really care if my gun is occasionally visible, either.

It's happened a couple of times, though not recently. Both incidents took place in restaurants, where we were waiting to line to pay at the checkout counter. I used to think that the fanny pack was an obvious tip-off, but no more -- lots of folks use 'em in my neck of the woods, for all sorts of things -- up to and including bottled water. Oregon has a high number of bicycle riders, along with hikers and backpackers and skiiers and such. This is pretty much everyday fashion here.

Anytime I see someone (especially a guy) wearing a fanny pack I wonder to myself if it is being used as a holster

I seem to only notice when someone is wearing something like a Crossbreed with their shirt tucked in.

A guy with a shooter's/photographer's type vest or a fanny pack always screams "I'M CARRYING" to me.

Ive noticed quite a bit at work. Whenever someone carries at six o'clock, it seems to be really obvious. I think a lot of people are using holsters not meant for IWB.

It's hard to take your post seriously when you misspell the word that you have in all caps.

Oh yeah. Quite a few times. But the most times that I've called it were the guys wearing the fanny packs.. I mean, come on. Who besides German tourists wear fanny packs for a reason other than packing?

c919 - you linked to this thread.

Never noticed. Never really looked. I only OC.

In WalMart of all places. I didn't have my mind on guns, so I didn't notice it at first, but the bulge printing through his shirt obviously was nothing else. Didn't bother me, though.

Lot's of overweight people in FL, and lots of fanny packs. I really don't look and it would be very hard to tell if it was a gun, or some kind of a medical device.

I've seen a few guys who seemed to have worn an OWB and thought that throwing a t-shirt over it conceals it. No matter, since MS is an open carry state.

A couple of times I *think*.
First time was a guy I knew was a police officer because I have seen him in the neighborhood in his uniform.
Came across him grocery shopping and was pretty sure that object in his right rear pocket was a small firearm of some sort.
Then just last week I was at a park and came across a guy with his two young children and he was wearing a Bulldog PDA style holster off of his belt.
And I knew it was a Bulldog because I just bought one a few weeks ago for my Diamondback 380 while I am anxiously awaiting for my CHL to be mailed to me.
And unless you knew what that was most likely you would never believe he had some sort of small pistol with him.
Which is a very good thing.
