I've been carrying a SA XDs in 45 acp for close to 4 years now. It's a great little carry piece, and I shoot it well. It has also proven really reliable, and in those 3.75 years, it has only failed to feed one time.

However, some concerns have started growing in my mind a bit. I live in a very low crime town, one that I have always been comfortable carrying a gun in that only holds 6 shots. I just can't come up with a scenario in this town where me carrying more ammo is going to save my life. Crime happens. Violence happens. But both are typically on such a small scale that capacity has never really been a concern to me.

Recently I met a woman who has changed my life for the better, but she lives in a larger city with a high number of poverty stricken residents. I frequently see 1-4 individuals walking down the street in a clearly altered state.

In addition, yesterday I went to a hospital with my GF to visit an injured friend. Something happened that I could not fathom. My GF and I walked past every person there without a word, myself with a holster IWB, not a gun, and her with a backpack. Not once were we checked for weapons, or explosives.

I don't see a hospital as a high priority target for mass shooters, or terrorists, but we live in a day and age where any building with a lot of easy victims is a target. What's easier than a bunch of people who are too sick or injured to flee? I saw no security presence what so ever. I have no doubt we were being watched on many surveillance cameras, but I just can't believe she walked in with a backpack unchecked. I know my gun isn't allowed in the hospital, but it's an example of where having a few more bullets for cover fire to make a retreat, could in fact save my and my GF's lives.

So I find myself in a city a lot more than I used to be. It's a town with a lot of derelicts and drunks, and racial tension to boot. I find myself, while not scared, thinking that perhaps carrying a gun with more capacity would be a good idea given that encountering a small group of assailants is a bigger possibility for me and my GF than in the past.

I've thought about getting an XDs in 9mm, but it seems silly to buy a new gun to gain 2 or 3 more shots. So right now, I find myself wanting a P30SK with night sites and a LEM trigger. With the pinky extension available on HKparts.net I'd now have a gun that holds twice the ammo of my XDs, is nearly the same height and length, and is only 0.37" wider than my current carry gun. I would keep my XDs for pocket carry or when concealment is really essential, but in most cases I believe I could easily carry a larger gun concealed.

So to those of you who carry or own a P30SK, how do you feel about them? Is there anything you don't like about them? Have you had any reliability issues?

I own an HK45 and a VP9, so I'm familiar with the controls and how the P30 is set up. I do not have experience with the LEM trigger though.

I dunno. Maybe I just want another gun, but the P30SK seems a good intermediate between my XDs and my VP9.

 IWB.. Think about that old Princess and the Pea story for a minute.

I know I cannot stand a gun that is .1" thicker than my current ccw's (2). duable but annoying as heck.

*No experience with the little HK

I buy my pants and shorts a size larger than I need to accommodate a gun. So it should work just fine.

However I'm planning to mostly carry it OWB. Probably in a Stealth Gear Flex. They look comfy, and I am concerned that I'm underestimating how much larger the gun would feel IWB.

I carry my P30 whenever I'll be in "higher risk areas"...(i.e. Soft Targets).
It's a good bit larger than my Ruger LCP, but as you stated...it has a lot more rounds for not that much larger package.

Is it more uncomfortable?...yes.
But I dress accordingly to conceal it better, and know I have enough rounds to (hopefully) either make a nut job duck long enough for me to escape or put up a good fight with multiple bad guys.

I originally got a p30 on a trade, and planned on prob selling it. However, after the first round I was convinced it would prob stay for a good long while. I have nothing negative to say whatsoever about it. In fact, I like it so much...I'm looking for another at a good price just to put back. It's a fine firearm.

I really like my P30SK and CCW it often. Being and HK is is a pistol you can rely on. I CCW mine IWB in a single clip kydex holster with 13 round magazine. For ME is it not quite as comfortable as my Walther PPS for IWB but comfortable enough. The single clip kydex holster allow easy on and off the belt while I am wearing it with the P30SK in the holster

Don't have a P30sk (yet), but do have a P2000 and a P2000sk, both with LEM triggers. The LEM trigger is outstanding.
