Do any of you sell your firearms? Some sell theirs to get something else that they want. I don't have a large gun collection by any means (i hope to), but I don't really want to sell any gun that I procur.

What influences your decision one way or the other?

I try not to. I've sold a few to "trade up" to something else, but every time I did I was sorry once the newness wore off the new gun or when my tastes changed back as they occasionally do. I was never sorry that I got the new gun, only that I don't have the old one anymore.

I usually sell guns that I don't like anymore, don't need, or something that has given me problems. When you start to get into new expensive stuff, you kind of want to trade out the old stuff that have been nothing but trouble, or the pieces that you look at and say, "why did I even buy this."

No. At least not right now. All of my guns are heirlooms (my grandfather's guns, the first rifle that I purchased, my father's guns).

You do not have to sell any. It would just take longer to get something you really want. Not selling guns means that you don't regret selling any. Then, you only have to worry about regretting purchases;)

Haven't sold one yet...Doesn't mean I won't at some time in the future...just haven't had the need/desire to sell any.

I will sell to buy something else that I want more, or will something that no longer interests me, or I have too many of anyway. As an example, I had a #4mk1 Fazakerly that I sold to a good friend because (1) I have 4 other #4mk1 Fazakerly's, and (2) he really wants an Enfield. Since I have a "spare", why not help a friend and increase the size of the militia? :D :neener: :D ;) ;) (That ought to fire up some computers in certain non named agencies!):scrutiny:

Otherwise, I only sell when necessary to upgrade my collection, or when totally out of money.

I haven't, until now.

I have several handguns that I don't want, so they will be for sale shortly. One, a Springfield 1911A1 Loaded, is already on the for sale board here at THR. The others will follow soon.

Mainly, I'm selling them to make room in the safe for guns that I'd rather have. Those for sale aren't special or valuable and I have no interest in keeping them, so I'll sell them and replace them with guns that I want.

Not yet... I collect knives too and for the longest time I never sold one until I got into guns  . Lately I've just been saving my money to buy new stuff instead of liquidating. I like ALL my toys!

Yep. If it becomes a constant problem to keep it functioning or simply a gun i've deemed unreliable(as in would you trust your life to it?) I will trade up in a heartbeat. A gun and a little cash on top can get you some great deals. If you can develop a program of always trading up when you buy a new gun it's the cheapest, best way by far to get new guns.

I am always selling a few. I buy way more then I need.
I'll use them, then sell them off to get something different.
I look at gun collecting as an investment. I've yet to sell
a gun for less then I paid for it,and was able to use it and
enjoy it.
I'm sure that most C&R holders will say the same thing.
That is what collecting is all about.

No, my philosophy is that I have a few guns that I really like. Plus, I think some people think of selling a gun as making money, I think that when I sell a gun I am losing the difference between what I paid and what I sold it for.

I live by the maxim that you only regret the guns you've sold, not the ones you keep.

Still, I find that the more experienced I become with firearms the quality of my collection increases while the overall size decreases...

Sell Guns???

Can ya really sell guns??? What a novel concept!!! I didn't think this was possible!!! :uhoh: I just seem to buy them and hang on to them forever!!! My children (or their mates) will inherit some mighty fine guns some day. :(
To be brutally honest I have sold a couple of guns in the long distant past and have regretted every one of them latter. I've learned my lesson!!! :)

I mostly accumulate them. Once in a while, though, I run across something that I feel is too good a deal to not buy. I have turned some of those around.

I look at that part of my hobby kind of like running a pet rescue organization. I take the poor, sad, unloved guns and let them stay at my house until someone comes along who wants to give them a loving, happy home.

Like others I try not to sell my guns with the following exceptions. If it is a gun that I can readily replace with something else on the market I like better I may "upgrade" it. Also, if I have come across something I want where there is a great sense of urgency (buy it now or lose it) I would sell off some guns that I could easily replace (with upgrade or same model) later. For example, I had an HKG3 clone and came across a real Hk91. To buy it I traded in an AMT Bacup .45 and a Taurus 850. Since then I have replace both (which were pocket guns) with a Kahr PM40. I also bought a S&W Model 60 .30spl that could replace the Taurus, but it is a texas Hold'em model so I don't think that I will be carry that.

I've sold a few when I decided to stop collecting a particular type, haven't sold one of my "shooting" guns since I sold them all in the '80's when we moved to England for 5 years.

Very seldom. I consider myself more of a gun accumulator than a collector. I've given away more firearms, since I bought my first one 43 years ago, than I've sold.

I want something different!

I'm going to sell this S&W 629

I used to swap and trade all the time. Sometimes buying selling and trading as many as seven or eight guns a month or more. I was avid about gunshows and would drive across the state to go to a show. These days I hold on to what I like and am not so inclined to trade. I do have a need for a .44 magnum revolver and I had thought of trading in my Beretta 1200fp but will wait until the cash comes along. I have had about six weapons that I wish that I had kept and will own again if the chance comes along. Here is what I wish I had kept.
Colt Delta Elite 10mm
Winchester Wrangler 32 win special
.30/40 Kraig carbine
Pre safety Marlin 336
Colt Trooper 6" .357
Colt SP1

Sell Them??

Hell, I just GOT them!

However, If you'd like to buy anything in my safe, 2xMSRP should do nicely.
