8" major caliber light weight gun. as installed 75 rounds of 240 lb
enlightenment delivered without any ammo handling.
after one shoot we had a 5 degree cant on the bow. the cure was a reciprical course and the same number of rounds down range.

when i was in the nav they had a frigate which they had mounted an 8" gun on the bow of this otherwise lightweight ship
no matter what they did to reinforce the bow, every time they shot it off, the ship had to go in for repairs and get all the cracks welded up again,,,
wish i could remember the name of the boat,,,oh well

ps:the gun was designed for a spruance class destroyer,almost twice the siz of the uss hull.
