Doctors need/want to know.

If we are talking about the OP:

Then "this discussion" is also about a doctor asking about all physical activities, a patient answering truthfully about target shooting, and the doctor and patient (so it seemed to me) forming a bit of a personal bond because of the discussion.

So: it would seem perhaps that those talking about pediatricians--if that is indeed off-topic--are not the only ones taking this thread off track?

;)

You sure have a lot of places that are off limits for concealed carry in Michigan! Oh well, at least you can open carry in most of them, including hospitals.
Civilians are allowed to carry firearms in Washington hospitals? I lived in Washington from 1988-2010, minus a four year stint when I joined the Air Force. I didn't think firearms were allowed in hospitals there, though.

Here in AZ, no civis can carry any firearm into any hospital or clinic - whether it's being concealed or open-carried is irrelevant. Nevada (I was stationed there in the AF) is the same way.

Regarding OP, I would mark "N/A" on the form, as a few others have said.

It's sad to see such a divide between health care workers and the firearm owning population, which is kind of interesting. I can only speculate this being the result of government & insurance companies interfering with doctor-patient relations, which I really hate to say there is no real way around in this country.
As a second year medical student, and a firearm enthusiast, I'm glad you guys brought up some salient points, like asking about lead exposure rather than a dead end question that it seems a majority will choose to lie about.
I think generally, physicians are most worried about children being exposed to lead dust which can lead to mental retardation, or hearing protection for children even if ,"it's only a twenty-two". If lead exposure is the issue, the physician should also ask about stained-glass window hobbies, soldering electronics, or working with lead-based paint.

I'm glad this issue has been discussed, I'd like to thank you for your honesty and I'm sorry some of you had to deal with doctors who cared more for politics than your well being.

God bless, and keep safe!
