does anybody leave guns stock?

carry guns are factory and loaded with factory ammo. i practice with reloads that replicate the SD rounds. all other guns get whatever they need to make them 'mine'.

I have modified the snot out of my 1911's in the past, but after many years and many dollars I shoot them stock...And I mean 1911a1 stock. No extended anything.

I'm betting $$$ to doughnuts the ejection port on your "stock 1911a1 is lowered and enlarged -- from the factory. I'm betting the grips aren't "mil spec" from the factory either, nor the sights.

Technically, if you want to split hairs, the 1911a1 is a "modified" 1911. The backstrap is curved rather than straight -- for starters.

I've never seen a Ruger revolver with stock walnut grips.

by nature i'm a tinkerer but i have a few guns that i left as they came, only because they were purchased as investments & modifying them would seriously affect their value.
most of my other guns are bought as a base for custom rifles & are usually tore down as soon as i get them & put in line with the rest of my projects.

Mostly bone stock. Maybe grips,slings/scope (on rifle) :) I have ONE I modded. Drilled frame/grip to lighten it. Maybe got 1 oz (not worth it)

All of my handguns except one are stock; the one has a ported slide and barrel. I have two stock shotguns and one that has an extended magazine.

None of my rifles are stock, though I blame my husband for that. :D

I'm the same way. All my guns have at least one modification to them, most of them numerous modifications.

I'm the same with other stuff too. This is the reason my trucks always have lift kits, big mud tires, etc. And my boat I bought as a plain jane jonboat, so that I could pick out exactly what motor, fishfinders, trolling motor, seats, I want, and rig it up myself. Not to mention my "do it yourself" camo paint job.

Of my collection of firearms--some of which predate the requirement for serial numbers--I have exactly three which (to the best of my knowledge) have been modified:

1903 Springfield: modified before purchase. When the NRA was selling surplus Springfields, most were modified by innumerable gunsmiths across the country before sale. Mine had the barrel and stock shortened, and possibly a change of sights. I removed the rear sight and installed a no-drill scope mount. The gun was already bubba-fied, so I figured I may as well toss the history and make it useful.

Colt Combat Commander: Jim Clark (the real Jim Clark, not somebody employed by him) did a trigger job, sights, and I don't know what else some twenty-five years ago. I acquired it in this condition, and wouldn't change it for all the tea in China.

Ruger Security Six: my dad changed a couple of springs.

By your definition, my Dan Wesson 1911 is also modified. I take exception to your definition, mostly because $600 doesn't go very far these days. I paid $679 for it (if memory serves), and consider it a steal at that price.

I don't change anything on my carry weapons, but every other gun has modifications made to it.

I figure I need to become a better shooter before I start tinkering with the guns themselves. Just recently I won a mini-pin tourney (beating 8 other guys in my division), with a box-stock Buckmark.

Only the addition of scopes and polishing triggers. Not even any trigger replacements.

I have left most of my shotguns alone. Chopped the stock on one for the kid to shoot. The wifes revolver is bone stock I also have a stock revolver. The 10/22 is still stock (for now) if you don't count hi cap mags. The kids .243 is about ready for some mods. The other 10 or so have at least sites changed or a scope added and some a little more than that triggers and such.

All of mine are mostly stock, not counting my SA milspec GI
And some finish and trigger work on my SA loaded.
My Glock 21 just has upgraded sights, and I'm very happy with it.
I may add a threaded barrel if I decide to get a .45 suppressor, and I'll have my SA loaded threaded also.
My AR-15 has a red dot and some other minor mods, just to suite my needs for 3gun/home defense.
My 700, I added a scope and tweaked the trigger.
My SAA .45lc is bone stock.
AK's are stock the way they should be.
The ol 870 is bone stock, but I plan on changing that soon to suite my needs for 3gun.

Some modifications.

I usually put some nice grips (nice wood with checkering) on 1911s. On 1911s I use for defense I'll put decent visibility fixed sights. Perhaps a minor 'cleaning' of the trigger - just remove excess 'creep' and put the trigger pull between four and six pounds, as opposed to between six and twelve as the govmint used to tune them.

If needed, a new finish.

Revolvers usually get a good set of grips, and if needed a set of springs and a smoothing of the action. I've got one or two that have had barrels shortened and spurs removed.

About the only gun I haven't modified is an H&K USP40. One cannot replace the grips, the sights are good as issued and the trigger is managable. That, and I carried it as a duty gun.

Rifles and shotguns get modified to fit me. If they don't fit right, they don't shoot well. The occasional scope gets mounted if the caliber suggests extended ranges. Then again, I'm getting older and more of my short range rifles have some form of optics rather than iron. My eyes seem to be aging faster than my brain.

My point is guns have to fit. They have to respond to me and my needs.

I tend to leave them alone. Maybe adding a scope or slip on shell carrier. If i want a modified gun i will buy a barebones model and build it up from there if i dont just build the gun from scratch.
