does anyone actually dislike the AR15?

The only simularity betwwwn the FNC and the FN-FAL are the letters FN.

I played with one in the early 1980's and was underwhelmed. Still as at that time my unit did not issue me a firearm and my CO allowed me to carry "whatever you can qualify with" I was looking for a rifle that could use 5.56x45 in the m193 format. Supposedly the FNC would use M-16/AR15 magazines so I grabed up a few and took them with me to examine the rifle. Shile the supplied steel magazine fell free sometimes, none of the aluminum AR mags did. Infact a couple were down right hard to remove. As there were no common parts and no allied unit I was likely to work with had them Idecided against buying one. Of course the rifle I ended up putting in my duffle bag also shared no parts and could not begin to use AR mags....I got a very good deal on a Mini-14 and several Ruger 20 rounders. I never shot a full corse with it but did use it to drop some popups out to 200 meters. While stateside I took an AR-180 out to a KD range at Ft. Sill and knocked down 39 or 40 from 15 to 300 meters, all popups. I still suspect that one missed was just a shot up target. I was concerned however that I might have had trouble reimporting the Ar-180 and left it stateside.

The FNC magazine problem reminded me of another AR annoyance.....the need to adjust the magazine release. If it was set to light then even with the "fence" around the button troops could loose magazines and if too tight it might be difficult while wearing gloves to get the magazine to drop. This is anothe of those issues not likely to show up to the casual Civilian shooter, but living with a rifle day and night.....well you see things others don't. Sort of like the difference between a girl friend and a wife.

As someone else meantioned there is a huge difference between driving to the range, uncasing on the line and shooting your carefully maintaned rifle and carrying a given rifle day in and day out in whatever conditions an Infantryman might face. I do find it interesting that most folks that seem to have issues on this thread with ARs seem to be Vets that had M-16 A1issued......hmmm.

No, I do not like them. This is mainly due, I think, to the fact that one of the first ones I fired was an original M16 or even an XM15; I do not recall for sure... though the charging handle was in back and not up top. I believe it was the original M16.

Anyway, it had no brass deflector. It didn't fail to chamber a round and I've never really seen the need for a forward assist when using right ammo and doing proper maintenance, but man, when I touched that thing off it shot a couple empties back into my face.

I'm a lefty. I was of course wearing glasses, but I still got a black eye out of the deal.

I had no issues with the later models, but those were civilian AR-15 rifles, not full-auto, and they had brass deflectors too.

The original M-16 I referenced belonged to a Class III dealer friend of mine some while back. I was not in the service, unfortunately. A couple bad joints kept me out.

I don't care for them. I don't like the direct gas impingement system, the caliber or the height over bore issue. I just prefer other systems and calibers. No problem with anyone else owning one though.

Got my first one about 3 weeks, ago. Ordered a 9mm build today, picking up a 300 blackout this week, yeah, I like the AR15 platform. Guess I just find it a lot of fun to shoot.

I do not like the AR15. No I don't.

By many standards of evaluation it is a great firearm. Doesn't matter. I just don't like it.

Salmon is supposed to be a great source of protein. Unfortunately it is fish, and I don't like fish.

Good news is that my adverse disposition towards the AR means that there is at least one of these popular rifles available for someone else to enjoy.

Stubb
