Why does anyone NEED and AR15?

diane feistein keeps trumpeting the idea the AR15 is a "weapon of war" and was designed "solely for killing people". People are asking why does anyone NEED an AR15? I respond with the fact the AR15 is the most widely issued rifle of law enforcement agencies in the US. Would you support banning them from the police too? If it is a weapon of war designed only for killing people why to police have it anyways? Are they at war against someone? Is killing people part of serving and protecting? Why can't they just use non-lethal weapons like pepper spray and tasers? The enlightened police officers in England don't have guns right? The response I usually get it police "need" AR15s so they are properly armed to stop similarly armed criminals and to defend themselves. Seems to me that is why we need them too.

Based upon some historic encounters, civil law enforcement needs semi-automatic weapons.

I need one because it is my right to own and shoot one under the laws of this land, I want at least some measure of parity should the worse happen, and for hog hunting in that order.

For a start the 2nd Amendment to the US Constitution has nothing to do with hunting or self defense. It is all about being able to resist a tyrannical government by force. As such an AR-15 is more applicable under the 2nd Amendment than a level action .30-30 ever was or will be since it gives as close to parity as you are likely to get in individual armaments to a soldier.
