You don't see too many of the back window type racks anymore. The new ones are a bit more stealthy than that but Cabela's has a good selection. That reminds me I need to buy one for my father for his birthday to match his realtree neoprene seat covers.

Yes, I mean visible in the back window. And the question I'm asking is, do you see it AT ALL. Are there any stubborn "holdouts" in small towns anywhere?

I've seen them in a couple big'ole pickups with big tires and the "no fear" peeing calvin, usually driven by some d-bag. I don't see them in your average country boy pickup though.

.......its handy

when the back seat has all my tools in it i cant set my rifles on the back seat so i got the rack

i dont like it much. doesnt fit my rear window well. depending what insurance says(check you blind spots people or else you make the gun owner you hit you your derango very mad!!!) ill have to find a new way to carry my rifles if its totaled im gonna look into old british ways of putting gun racks in landrovers ( if its done im buying an older land rover 90 or 110 defender)

not too common here but not something you look strange at

I certainly remember them while growing up. Highschool boys' pickups weren't cool unless they had one. Back then, the school didn't care if the rack had something in it either.

I had one in my pickup as a teenager, usually with a shotgun or .22 or both, even when parked in the high school parking lot. My how times have changed, and not for the better.

Now I wouldn't think of it. I keep them out of sight in a case in my extended cab, and I never leave them in there for an extended period of time. Of course I now live in a city of 250,000 people as opposed to 12 miles outside of a village of 400, like when I was 18.

There was some decrease with the increase of sliding vent rear windows becoming a 'stock' itme on trucks.

Extended cabs see to have really decreased the window racks.

Farm & ranch folk around here still armed, same way they have a calf rope in the ride, too. only change is in the truck.

You can, however, spot the working versus the sport 4x4's; working ones always have a rifle rack or boot.

At least here in central Texas it looks that way to me.

I see it around here pretty often. I wanted one and went as far as getting one for the back window but thing was a piece of crap. I kind of want one in the ceiling now.

That has really dried up in Indiana. Sure are a lot of car break-ins these days around here...all the Meth heads I guess.

+1 on the school parking lot. I'll bet my senior year, there were 7 or 8 pickups (which were not as common for everyday transport back then) with guns in them in the parking lot everyday. Not even an issue, never even came up. Weren't supposed to have cigarettes...but no mention of a gun. Never had a problem either. They really weren't a status symbol or anything...just a lot of country boys who hunted after school and whatnot.

i have one mounted behind the seat. The back window is just to visible to be safe these days. I actually had a hard time finding one, cabelas didn't have what I was looking for.

I have property in Llano Texas and was there for a month in March.

Many residents have rear window racks with rifles in them.

When they go into local stores, windows are left down and nobody touches anything.

Gonna be a great little place to retire to.

They are seasonal in Maine. I use one, but my pet peeve is when people put fishing poles on them... sun... mono line... bad....

I also like regular cabs, because I prefer 8 foot beds... not sure if I would have one if I had a back seat.

Every truck I've owned has had a rack in it. Except for the wives, she won't go for it. I think you can see it in this picture, with the proper ornaments.

I see them mostly in the rural areas of NC, SC, TN and VA. Hardly ever see a longarm in one unless there is a hunting season in. I see a lot of them holding borken down spinning and fly rods up in the hills though. I see quite a few holding canes. I have a quick remove set in my pickup for two travel rods also.

M'bogo

See them all the time in Wyoming. Not to many with rifles in them right now, but come hunting season you will. Freaks the tourist out. But so does that big ole elk in the bed of a truck.

In Florida (it's my understanding) that you aren't allowed to transport a firearm unless its in a closed case...so we can't use the rear window gun racks here.

Unfortunately, I don't trust my fellow citizenry around here enough to do it anyway. Another week and a half and I'm moving to Abbeville, MS (population 422)...it'll be a different story then. :)

It does my heart good to see a rack full of guns. Unfortunately I live in Jacksonville, and while legal, because we live in a different world now I don't think it's a good idea. I had gun racks in all my trucks except for 1 and they were well used. I used to put tennis balls between the rack and the rear window to keep them from vibrating so much.

Guns in the window rack, windows down and the engine left running while they go into the store or gas station. It has always struck me as being HIGHLY irresponsible to leave guns unattended but it happens many times a day, every day, here in NW Montana.
