Does it make me a Mall Ninja if...

I've never seen one outside of pictures. I've read reviews on them and everyone seems to have nothing but good to say about them. Price is the only downside. I simply don't have that level of income to drop on stuff. Now if I were single, I'd be living in a studio apartment surrounded by guns. But with a wife and kids, guns like a SCAR are a novelty that I can not justify.

Are you Mall Ninja... ah.. NO...

Is it a cool gun... I've never had the pleasure of shooting/handling one... but hey I wouldn't kick it out of the safe... I looks like it just might work...

It is why Baskins and Robbins carries 31 flavors, and why Burger King say's you can have it your way...

Its ok to own that gun, it won't make you a mall ninja(saying that it's the exact same gun that the special forces use every time that you tell someone what it is make you a mall ninja).

Also I thought that mall ninjas only had airsoft guns

Haha

I think the FN Scar is cool, but I wouldn't be able to justify the price tag to myself, let alone the wife! I'll have to stick to building AR's.....bits and pieces here and there, its less of a hit in one go! :)

Owning the gun does not make you a mall ninja.

However, the fact that you are concerned that you might be becoming a mall ninja is a warning sign. Admitting you have a problem can be the first step to recovery.

IF you have to ask whether something makes you a "mall ninja" then you should know the answer.

However, the FN SCAR is a fine rifle and most civilians who own them are not "mall ninjas". It all depends why you bought one and what you intend. If you like collecting, or want a piston carbine that is truly milspec, I think it makes good sense. If you just had to have one because of some video game, well....

I would like a SCAR in .308

But then again I could get 3 FALs for that price.

Or two really good FALs. Or possibly the most nearly comparable rifle, the LMT MWS 308, which is a bit less than the MK17 but well over $2k. Or, if you wait a bit, H&K's neutered civilian .308 atrocity...

It is a good basic rifle design, and I love how light it is, but I just don't think it offers enough over the regular old AR. I don't like how you are stuck with the stubby carbine-length handguards and sight radius no matter which barrel length you have, and how you are stuck with full quad rail cheese graters instead of a more comfortable, more adaptable modular handguard. The AR-15 is just so much more customizable to fit the shooter and the mission. I also don't like how there is only one company making the SCAR and that's probably how it's going to stay, since it looks like it won't be adopted as a service rifle.

But no, I don't think owning a SCAR or any other type of gun by itself makes you a mall ninja.

+1!

Who cares? Be a "mall ninja" if you have fun doing it, as long as you dont hurt anyone else. Don't let others suck the enjoyment out of shooting for you. After all, there is no "right way" to enjoy a hobby, unless you live in a communist country where the government tells you what to enjoy :p.

Quick & Easy questionnaire:

1. Do you stop by the cheap knife/sword, and Airsoft mecca that is the only store of its kind in your local mall?

2. Do you buy the cheap knife/sword, and Airsoft products that are offered?

3. Did you finally buy a real knife, or firearm as a result of these novelty store(s)?

If you answered Yes, No, No, you are not a mall ninja.
If you answered Yes, Yes, and NO... you are symptomatic.
If you answered Yes, Yes, and Yes... you weren't, but then you were, but then you redeemed yourself and hopefully put your mall ninja ways behind you, as neither the cheap knives or fake guns will do it for you anymore.

In all seriousness, that's a great looking SCAR, lube it, shoot it, clean it, wash, rinse, repeat.

Now excuse me as I go zero my Aimpoint to my Eotech in case the ACOG goes out.

I got the chance to shoot a SCAR w/Eotech that belongs to the GM at my LGS, and I felt like I couldn't miss. And in fact my shooting was right on. Isn't that what we all REALLY want in a rifle?

Absolutely. But you don't need to spend $2500 to do it. Nothing against the SCAR or the poster for buying one. But don't imply that other rifles can't be as accurate.

Having the rifle doesn't make you a mall ninja any more than owning a factory stock Honda Civic makes you a ricer. It's what you do with the items that decide what to label you as

Whoa there, pardner, back it up a little bit! Nowhere did I imply any such thing. Only said that I borrowed one to shoot, and found that between the ergonomics and the Eotech it inspired some comfortable and accurate shooting. End of story. I'm sure many other rifles with the same glass would be as accurate.

Nope. Your no mall ninja. Not to say that Gecko45 doesn't have one or two in his tactical golf cart.

Darn! Beat me to it!

I will throw this in......the FN SCAR is not built by Special Weapons. That alone will keep you from being a mall ninja.
