Been a few years since I've been in a Kmart due to their store closings and major downsizing. Do they still sell guns and supplies? If so, how do they compare in selection to Walmart? Might have to look a Kmart up if they still sell them.

Also, I've seen a few former Kmart stores in the bigger cities now called "Sears Grand". What are these like?

They do here in Utah. I was in there a couple of weeks ago and they still had shotguns, rifles, ammo, etc. Not a stellar selection and I didn't notice the prices, but they were still the basic pump and auto shotguns, some bolt action rifles. I seem to recall there was a lever-action .30-30 too. The Walmarts with the new expanded gun section have more choices and also sell pistol ammo.

Sears Grand

In regards to your questions, Kmart does not sell anything other than cleaning supplies, and "Sears Grand" is a strange offshoot of Kmart's takeover of Sears. (I work at Sears, when Kmart bought us out the place entered a downward spiral) Ironically, my father's .30-06 was bought at Sears a LONG time ago.

the one local to me in MD sells some shotguns and has a ton of air pistols, but the department never has anyone there, and the choice is pathetic for "real" guns. It's in a downward spiral I think.

Remember, just post 9-11-01 when K-Mart made a very vocal announcement that they would stop selling weapons and ammo so that they wouldn't be a possible source for terrorists?

They were looking to get out of that line of products as it wasn't selling well for them, so they thought they'd get a little feel-good political juice spritzed on them to boot. It didn't work out that way.

It really chapped me--I liked K-Mart. I don't see guns there (powder guns) but lots of paintball and airgun supplies. Some ammo is still on shelves in Iowa nearby. I don't buy from them anymore.

I'm not that old (mid 30's) but I remember when Sears still sold long guns at it's Calumet City, IL store. I don't know that K-mart ever had 'K-Mart' brand firearms. They did have MANY branded items years ago.

Kmart

Ours still has a small gun case with a limited selection. Good luck finding any staff though. Seldom more than a handful of teenagers running the whole store.

In Texas they have the guns and ammo. Like most things Kmart sells; the prices are higher, the selection worse and the sales staff worse than Walmart. They have no hand guns or centerfire semi-auto rifles out here. Imagine AWB II and that covers it.

Sears no longer sells firearms or ammo that I know of.

K-Marts around here (CT) still sell ammo, accessories, airguns and paintball guns.

I know of another in DE that sells all of the above AND has a valid 01 FFL, but doesn't sell guns.

Same here

some do, some don't. mine has a new lady manager and she has reduced the size of the shootin' section to fit into an outhouse. she also locked-up accessories behind glass and moved the counter so if you want to look at something you need to search for an employee:mad: good news is the little gunshops in the area will start doing more business:D

ironically, being a commie state that I live in, K-mart des still sell guns and ammo where I am in NY, but as mentioned, the selection is pretty pathetic and there is almost never anyone staffing that section. Once upon a time Sears sold guns, along with most mom and pop hardware stores, but no longer. Walmart may still have guns and ammo, but they treat you like a terrorist if you are foolish enough to buy a firearm from them, and their prices on amm have skyrocketed to the point where they don't tend to be any cheaper than anywhere else. They DO occasionally have some great deals on ammo if they are doscontinuing something. Guns tend to be the cheap models, which aren't of much use to somebody who's been shooting for years and has all of those bases covered, but would be nice to buy something for a first gun...until you buy a gift for someone and are there for an hour and a half while they give you dirty looks, then make announcements over the PA that a gun is leaving the store, then escort you to the door and practically throw you and the gun out, whether you had more shopping to do or not. I'll go to the local mom and pop place now, thanks. Then they'll say how sales are down so they might as well stop selling...bunch of maroons...(yes, I realize it's "morons", I use maroons in the bugs bunny sense ;) )

As I recall from the aftermath of 9/11, they succumbed to the pressure to "do something" by agreeing to quit selling handgun ammunition. After all, the 9/11 terrorists could not have succeeded without the easy availability of 9mm ammo. I then made my decision that the next purchase I made at Kmart would be a box of 9mm ammunition, and I'm still waiting. I noticed that shortly thereafter the company's business collapsed and they went bankrupt. I didn't realize that my business was what was sustaining them. I almost feel guilty. :(

I love how people jump to incorrect conclusions.
Apparently if K-Mart (or other stores in general) do not sell items in there area, then by default those stores do not sell those items ANYWHERE in the the world......

Sorry guys, but your wrong.

Here in IDAHO K-Mart DOES sell rifles, bolt and semi. along with shot guns.
No hand guns sold AT OUR K-MART, but it does not mean that other K-Mart in IDAHO do not sell t hem, we just do not have them here.

We also have ammo out (not behind glass) on shelves - for all fire arms sold.

The one here still sells a few long guns and ammo. Very small selection, 22lr, 30-30, 270, 30-06, 12ga, 20ga, and not much else.

Our local K-Mart still sells long guns and a small selection of ammo. When they have 12 gauge dove loads (#8 shot) on sale at $3.50 per box I tend to buy all they have left in stock. They also have a fair selection of air guns, bows, hunting and target arrows. I buy clay pigeons almost exclusively at K-Mart.

Actually most of the K-Marts in this area of West Central Mass have closed. The only one left has not had any firearm supplies for as long as I can remember.

some Kmarts around here have shotgun birdshot cartridges..... aside from that and cleaning supplies (sparse selection), that's it.
