I'm about to buy a bunch of gun cleaning supplies online and I need to make sure the company I buy from ships discreetly (i.e. so that you can't tell from the box that it's gun supplies). I live in an apartment building where all packages are delivered to the management office, and my supper always has something to say about every package I get. Don't know where he stands on firearms and not interested in finding out. So could anyone who buys form Midway let me know what kind of info is printed on the box? Also, if Midway wouldn't work, suggestions for other online stores that are discreet would be appreciated. (I've looked at Cabela's, but they don't have as much selection for cleaning supplies.)

As far as I recall it just comes in a plain brown box bearing the name of midwayusa as the sender on the shipping label.

Sounds like apartment management needs to be advised that the 'super' is not a very discrete individual. Plain brown box that does have the return adress on a small shipping label.

Don't count on it. They are pretty good most of the time, but every once in a while they'll just slap a shipping label on a product box. If it's a gun-specific product, well, there you go.

I think my Tipton cleaning kit came that way.

They say "MidwayUSA" and anyone with internet can find out what that is in 5 seconds.

Also, anything that requires a hazardous sticker, like ammo or some types of cleaning solvents, will result in that sticker - probably an ORM-D that will say in smaller lettering what it is (e.g. "cartridges, small arms" or "consumer commodity").

Depends on what you get. My tumbler kit I bought had a shipping label slapped right on the production box with a picture of the tumbler on it. Most other things have come in the brown box.

Brownell's is way more discreet though. Their stuff doesn't even say Brownell's on the label. Plain brown box. Their tornado brushes are the best, too!

The stuff that I've received came in Midway's packaging, which was generic/discreet.

Back in college, when I lived in my first apartment, the apartment manager and her crew entered my place for some general reason while I was out one day. One of them noticed a peculiar paperweight that I had on my desk. It was a disengaged Mk II hand grenade like the ones you find at novelty stores. Their reaction was slightly discreet.

Midway USA sells a variety of products. You could tell him anything, like "I needed to buy a set of screw drivers". Even better yet you could tell him what you get in the mail is none of his da** business. Politely, of course. :D

a word ...in time

Perhaps you should -discretely, talk with your mail carrier about this super and his invasion of your privacy. Most likely it is not a violation of the Postal laws, but a word from the carrier might make the super keep his nose out of the mails and your business.

You know what, I am thinking with all the government forms that the post office has, it may well be that they have a complaint form, or other.

My wife is a property manager at an apartment complex. Things get delivered to her office all of the time. Unless it is in your lease that you can't have firearms (which you shouldn't live in such a place anyways), then it is nobody's business what you have delivered.

I'd threaten to turn in your notice citing the nosey super as your reason for leaving and the manager will take care of your problem real quick. The apartment business is just as badly affected by the economy as any other business and they won't lose a lease over an HR problem that could be handled with an employee reprimand.

Sounds like you need to tell him to piss off.

I've received stuff from Midway USA in plain cardboard boxes with just a small shipping label on them.

Start ordering ammo by the case online, let him ponder 50-100lbs of ammo. Better yet order up a bunch or powder for reloading.

This reminds me of the Tom Waits son "What's He Building in There?"

You can select how you want your package shipped. I usually get them USPS priority and they come in standard brown boxes.

Thanks for all the feedback. If they do ship UPS that's not a problem, as then I get it delivered to my door. But even if it's USPS it's not that big a deal, as long as the shipping label doesn't include the tagline from the website: "Just about everything for shooting, reloading, gunsmithing and hunting." I doubt the super would actually look up Midway on the net if it's just a small shipping label. Not that I'm worried about what he thinks, or what others in the building will think if he blabs about it--but people can be squeamish about guns here in California. Also, you never want the wrong people knowing you have any in your place, no matter where you live.

I got an "at office" card in my mail box recently and arrived at the office before the mailman.
When the mailman pulled up I walked over, showed him the card and said I'd save him the trip inside.
He picked up my box and said, "feels like reloading stuff to me".
Yes, it was cast bullets that were heavy. but I was caught off guard and said nothing.
It was a "if it fits it ships" box with no company name just "MBC".

I can recommend changing the dead bolt locks in your apartment as most are Kwikset and can be bought at any big box home store.
It's easy to match the serial numbers of the packaged locks at the store to get as many as you need keyed alike.
Just remove the lock, change just the single piece that is keyed, and replace.
Keep "their keys/locks" to re-install when you move out.

This is a small one time expense, as you take your locks with you to the next place.

Please don't respond and tell me I can't change the locks.
I'm an adult and will deal with the consequences if any.

Another important thing to do is make sure to refuse any catalog offers when buying mailorder.
I checked "include a catalog" once when ordering from Midway and the shipping charge DOUBLED.
Yep...I paid shipping for their catalog!!!

I also found a catalog from Cabellas on my doorstep that the mailman put in someone elses mailbox.
So, some unknown neighbor got that SHOOTING catalog and put it on my doorstep!!
I did 3 laps around Cabellas website trying to cancel those catalogs and finally had to call!

We all have "stuff" that a felon cannot legally buy at any price so protect it, every way you can.

I would have to say no. I had ordered a range bag from them. When I got home yesterday, there was a box by my front door that said Midway on it and RANGE BAG!

Ship it normally. If he asks, tell him its illegal to ship firearms direct and therefore couldnt be. Most rentals/leases have anti-gun clauses but doent say anything about powder/primers/gun supplies.

I can't say I'm an expert on lease agreements, but is "most ... have anti-gun clauses" correct? I've never seen one that did. Maybe "some", but "most"?

Sorry for the thread drift.

It depends on if it's a drop ship thing or not. From them it will just say Midwayusa, and non gun people don't know who that is. Your lease wouldn't have that anyway.

If it has hazardous materials like bore blaster or solvent that is flammable there will be stickers indicating that on the box. If you order ammo there will be stickers indicating that on the box.
