Under tyranny in Midwest
two things that are bugging me.

First, the GOP seems willing to increase centralized Govt control verse letting more law-abidding armed citizens play any serious role in protecting our land.

Second, The GOP needs to learn that these armed "conflicts" are a major distraction from the domestic agenda.

On the First issue,
Yes 9/11 changed things. But what I will never agree with is the GOP's response which is less liberty and more Govt agency oversight on "we the people" for "our security". No involvment, consideration, thought or even respect for the common armed citizen in this country. Its our land (ok back off I still like that song). No public consideration or respect that law abidding armed citizens can play a role (IMHO the most important role) of protecting this land and its men, women and children. I dont want other branch of Govt, another agency.

I'm reading a book "Target Switzerland: Swiss Armed Neutrality in World War ll" In that book the swiss talk the talk and walk the walk of the most important role of the armed citizen protecting their land,, a true militia. The swiss did not destroy individual liberty, turn themselves into a centralized overpowering Govt to protect themselves from another centralized overpowering Govt (Hilter's Germany). But its seems that we are headed down this path. Its seems the GOP is more than willing to make this trade off. (I'm not looking for anti swiss comments here)

When is the common man and woman ever going to be taken seriously in this country?? When are they going to be included "in the loop" for national security? (and no not just given a stupid rainbow warning colorbook)

Are People in Govt uniforms the only way that is available to protect our land "the right way" ??

Pretty sure the minutemen project worked. Worked in April of 1775 too.

On the Second issue,
Where is the GOP domestic agenda? Say what you want about this "war" with Iraq. But what is never talked about by any GOP office holder is the complete loss of a domestic plan because all the GOP cards are on the "war" with Iraq. It has taken up all of the president's and this parties time and energy.
I thought the GOP was the party of Fiscal Conservatives? Where is Social Security reform?? Where is REAL Tax reform? ( not just a few billion dollar tax cuts followed by hundreds of billion in increased Govt welfare spending (the new drug plan pork ) and increasing the Military complex. (I know thats a buzz word....no I'm not a liberal freak)

I feel the GOP will loose on coming elections because of the complete dropping of the ball on issues here at home. If they did both at the same time maybe it would be better. But people electing more Liberals is not the answer. But rewarding the GOP with more votes is not either.:uhoh:

The GOP is selling the public what they want to buy. Personal responsibility is a dirty word these days. The problem isnt with the GOP, it's with the people who can vote. The government will continue to bribe us with fiat money and offer to wipe our asses for as long as people will accept the money and willingly bend over.

The solution, as always, is to win the culture war. The more voices speak and beleive our message, the more we will listened to. Compared to where things were in the 60s-mid 90s, we are doing a great job on the gun rights front. We are a long way from winning, but at least the barbarians no longer surround the capitol.

They cut taxes a little and let the AWB expire - which is good - but they're spending money like drunken sailors in a bordello after four years at sea - not good. They've thrown open the nation's borders. They've greatly increased the Federal bureaucracy. They've kept Democrats (like Norman Mineta) as part of the administration.
I think the GOP will loose on coming elections because of the complete dropping of the ball on issues here at home.
I feel they'll lose in the coming elections because, since they're governing as if they were Democrats, there's little reason to vote for them. ("We're bad, but those guys are worse" doesn't make for a very effective campaign slogan, even if it's true.)

xd9fan: I disagree with your assessment that the GOP is restricting liberty...can you cite cases or examples (one will do) where you personally were denied freedom as a direct result of this Administration?

I gather your ire is directed at the Patriot Act, but again, can you cite a restriction of it that directly impacted you?

This administration has prosecuted the War on Terror professionally so far. Unformtunately, it has to operate against a liberal media and a Democrat Party which is disseminating propaganda against the war and against America.

Yes I can, been to the airport lately?, it seems that 4 years ago I could arrive about 90 minutes before any flight and make the plane on time, I used to do curbside check-in with the sky caps.

Now its a 4-5 hour ordeal,

And I am safer how???????????

Truer word have not been spoken. Beerslurpy, you have hit the nail square on the head in concise terms. All I can add is that the MSM is an ally of the enemy in this culture war. It is part bias (wanting the other side to win) and part just wanting to generate low-cost, low-effort inflamatory "news."

HankB, I agree with all you say except
They've thrown open the nation's borders.
Actually, they have simply left them open. It's not as if it were better under other administrations or Congresses in the past 60 years.

Henry, I think we'll have to agree to disagree . . . the Bushmen have done more than simply leave the borders open; by dangling things like a guest ("don't call it amnesty") worker program in front of illegals they've increased the flow of illegals. When ICE (is that the new acronym?) tried to pick up illegals everywhere, the Bushmen stopped them. When money was allocated for the border patrol . . . it disappeared into the BP bureacracy.

And Bush implied the Minutemen were "vigilantes." :cuss:

Camp David quote "xd9fan: I disagree with your assessment that the GOP is restricting liberty...can you cite cases or examples (one will do) where you personally were denied freedom as a direct result of this Administration"

Camp david I dont have to touch the hot stove to understand that its hot.
ever heard of the Chilling effect on the Economy theres one on Liberty too.

So bad Law/even unconstitutional is "ok" if it doesnt effect me???

In 2006 new passports will have mircochips with all my info on it. They did not ask me how I feel on this nor make it an option. My old passport is fine thank you...fine another way.

The airport "security" is a joke....its the appearence of security only.

This Administration publically wanted the AWB to be renewed. Thats a fact!!

This Administration created a brand new Branch of Govt that needs more money to be fed. My Tax dollars WILL increase. Was not given an option on this either.

Have you heard about this Administrations plan for dealing with an outbreak??
It goes waaaay to far. (and I'm an ICU Nurse)

Does this Administration INCREASE LIBERTY??? where?? How???

What is THIS administration doing publically about the joke Kelo Supreme Court Case. I have not hear one peep from Bush on this. A Conservative would make it his/her mission in life to fight this abuse of the Bill of Rights!!

"be quiet then" Hail You

I disagree with your assessment that the GOP is restricting liberty

Both parties have and do. Sad but with uncontrolled population growth around
the world and much of it wanting to come here we will continue to lose more
freedom. The super wealthy care nothing for this country as money is the goal , the end result is loss of freedom.

It works... it is a hassle but it seems to work. If you can do better let's see your plan.

Wrong. It consolidated several departments with like missions into the Homeland Security Department, saving money in long term due to consolidation of like tasks under one umbrella...

I assume you are referencing the CDC...Centers for Disease Control... considering the threats posed by SARS, Bird Flu, etc. I would caution criticism until you are fully aware of what the CDC is actually doing to ward off these threats. They are genuine and very dangerous.

Afghanistan, Iraq, etc.

Perhaps if you actually read Constitution, which I doubt you ever have, you will see the CLEAR division between the Executive and Judicial branches... your complaint about Kelo is with Judicial branch of government not Executive...get it right!

What you have to do with this administration is lower your expectations. I confess, I expected so much more from a "conservative" President and a Republican Congress. The first term taught me to expect nothing, and once I came to the realazation that was exactly what we were going to get things got better.

Yes - they have a lot to offer domestically. Immigration reform, AKA Jorge and his guest worker program - is an excellent example of what the GOP has to offer. Put enough salt on it and even you can learn to like it.

Has there been any plane hijacking since 09/11/01?

Be quiet then!

I think that's more because the terrorist planners know it won't work. The rules have changed. Before 9/11, the rule was "passengers stay quiet, pilots comply till the plane is on the ground."

Now it's "Someone says 'hijack', air marshals nail them, and failing that, every able-bodied person on the plane jumps up and kicks their behind."

If you think TSA works, check out how many TEST bombs and guns get through their "security".

Hank, I think we basically agree. I would say that the borders are no more open than they were before. However, the abuse of them and the problems caused have increased, and the current admin and Congress have done nothing more to address the problem.

I don't think that the "guest worker" program will favor the illegals already here over others not yet here. At least it shouldn't.

Put enough salt on it and even you can learn to like it.
I prefer sugar!

I have read some of the Constituion thank you!! I'm Not sure the GOP cares though enough to read it.

So no President has ever publically given his approval or disapproval
of Court Decidings???? You need to read some U.S. history!!

The GOP put some of the members of the S.C. that voted for Kelo Thanks!!

I meant increasing liberty HERE!!! and How???? How is Bush Increasing OUR Liberty??? How is he controling the Fed Govt........the answer is he is not. sorry but he is not

Also I would caution you as too how Marshall Law would work on the effects of an outbreak.

Pat downs on six year old and granny are a workable solution??

I ask you again:
So bad Law/even unconstitutional is "ok" if it doesnt effect me???

wake up GOP wake up

xd9fan said:

If you disagree with the Kelo decision then fault the Supreme Court which is the Judicial Branch, don't throw mud at the Executive Branch! Can you actually read?

still did not answer that one, anyway what does that say about a President to not even have a opinion publically on this when everyone knows that case is unbelievable????

soooo he cant talk about this issue (the raping of the Bill of Rights)?????
He cant have a public opinion on this????? Really?? the bully pulpit??? NO Comment????
COME ON you think Reagen would keep quite on this???

I give you credit for hanging with the man but WOW he is not a Conservative nor would he know what to do with one if confronted.

Your complain here is with the Congressional Branch of government... Congress is the greatest threat to the Bill of Rights! All of the legislation effecting/impacting the Amendments is started by Congressmen... direct your complains to them.

xd9fan said:

Bush has spoken out on a variety of wrongly-decided judicial decisions (abortion et al.) and his efforts by appointing conservative judicial nominees will go far to rectify these decisions.

xd9fan said:

I strongly disagree... GWB is a conservative. He is also quite effective.

That will be hard to do because "our" message is a stern one, for responsible adults. In a nation that has grown up expecting escape and entitlement and endless prosperity the message of "the Right" seems hard and cold. The times dictate how acceptable a message is. At the moment things are still relatively good for most people so the imperative is to seek pleasure, to consume. The pendulum will swing back eventually.

The GOP stands for making money and today that means global commerce, with a marriage between government and mega-corporations. The U.S. is just one piece of turf on the great globalist chessboard.

LOL OHHH MY a conservative he is not (little Yoda there for ya). Quite effective at spending money yes.
He signed the biggest latest form of socialist crap called prescription drug bill. This will make the Medicare problem bigger!!
He signed the education bill (let teddy write the thing).:banghead:
The federal Govt is increasing by 31% annually!!!!! and In his 5 years in office has signed more spending bills the LBJ!!!

And publically wanted the AWB continued!!

A Conservative would never ever let this happen.......But he is playing by the same playbook that Bill Clinton did. which is to outspend your opponant and take away the votes.

Show me a gang of 14 Conservatives in the Senate????

Reagen had a Dem CONGRESS and the Man was principled.

Again soooo he cant talk about this issue (the raping of the Bill of Rights)?????

I gather you are an ostrich with your ignorant head in the sand... prescription drugs have been steadily escalating in price, to a point where they are unaffordable... this Prescription Drug Bill will help seniors and all Americans afford prescriptions and medicines. Bush decided to help seniors with prescriptions... an effort the Democrats utterly failed to do. If you wish to label it socialism then go ahead... but wait until you get older and have to live on a fixed income and become reliant upon medicine. Then we'll see which way you feel on this issue!

Yes it is called "No Child Left Behind" and it measures progress at the elementary and secondary level and holds schools accountable for what they are suppose to provide. I agree completely with it... American educatiion has been in decline far too long. "No Child Left Behind" has made remarkable progress!

?I could cite a whole lot more than 14! The Conservative majority controls Senate.

I respect GWB's principles and ethics just as much as RWR.
