Does the IWB carry violate Safety Rule #1?

Gee, my first post here . . .

My preference is to carry IWB at 4:30. My background as an LEO--and also my training before that--taught me to always be aware of where my weapon is pointed, regardless of whether my finger is on the trigger, whether the gun is loaded, or whether it's fully "safed." For those who haven't thought this through, though I presume most have, carrying at the 1 o'clock position means that the gun is pointed directly at your femoral artery. Any unintended discharge in that position would almost certainly prove fatal.

Thanks. Great to be here. I'm still getting acquainted, but it looks, for the most part, like a place populated by intelligent people. Not something that you necessarily see a lot of on the www.

Back on the original topic, I fully acknowledge that my approach to handling and carrying weapons is very conservative, from a safety perspective. In my career I've dealt with more than one case where well-trained professionals screwed up with handguns, resulting in accidental discharges and, in one instance, the death of a close friend.

I know IWB can be done safely, but like any other endeavor involving a gun, you really should go through all the possible scenarios in your mind (even those that strike you as pretty improbable) before you arrive at a final decision as to when, where, and how you will carry.
