I am interested in getting a Walther PPQ Classic (also called the M1). I have an HK45C and like the paddle magazine release and so thought I might like the PPQ M1. Also, I was interested in the HK VP9 until I fired a friend's and the trigger, trigger guard, or whatever made my finger sore. I will be test shooting a PPQ M2, since I cannot seem to find the M1 available anywhere to shoot. If it doesn't bite my finger, I may go for the M1.

But in reviews, they show replaceable grips available for the M1 (the Classic). Maybe those are older reviews, but in all the information I can find on new M1s, nothing is mentioned about replaceable side grips like there are for the M2. Can anyone who has bought a new M1 recently confirm that?

I don't really know about the grip panels. Good chance of it since it was greatly influenced by/inspired by the HK P30. The PPQ M1 is one of the few non-HK auto pistols I'd like to add to my collection.

The PPQ M1 as you called it, have interchangeable backstraps. There is no side panels.

Thanks guys. Info I couldn't have gotten anywhere else.

Especially that sheet from 4thPoint. The Walther website says, "We also have our PPQ M1 Classic. Click on info ..." but there is no clickable link. Once again, the forum comes through.

It's the other way around.

The P99 (of which the PPQ is a variant) came long before the P30.

This. If anything the P30 took many of its features from the P99.

The PPQ M1 has 3 replaceable backstraps. There are very few firearms I can think of, the P30 being the only one that comes to mind, with replaceable side panels. I wanted the sides of my P99 just a very small touch thicker so I added some cut and stick grips. Works out really well. Almost makes it look like a PPQ as well.

As far as grip got to give the edge to the PPQ over almost anything I have handled. Pick the backstrap that fits and take a good firing grip. The best way I can describe it is the grip on the PPQ makes love to your hand :D It is simply sublime. Ergonomically it is darn near perfect.

You guys are kidding, right?;) Look at the timeline, then look how much the PPQ borrowed from the P30. The PPQ might be kin to the P99 but it got a lot of its final form from the HK. Of course, lots of influence back and forth between both those companies over the years since HK introduced the first modern striker and the first production polymer pistol.:neener:

Teasing you both a bit, I like Walthers quite a bit, too.:D

Variants of the p99 that look like the PPQ have been around in Europe for a long time before they ever brought them to the USA. Many people wish they'd bring over the A/S version of the PPQ. It's been around, just not in the USA.

I'd have to go look, but the PPQ style might predate the P30 - just not here in the states

P99QA. Difference between the 99AS and the 99QA was the trigger. The QA used a tabbed trigger similar to Glocks.

No. Shipwreck is probably referring to the P99RAD. Polish made under license in 2008, the RAD pretty much created the mold for the PPQ.

There have been several Europe and Africa variants of the P99 that haven't made it to the US.

Had forgotten about the RAD. But makes sense. The grip and rail look more like what made it to the PPQ than the P99QA.

No. I am not kidding. The P99 was introduced in 1997, many years before the P30, which was introduced in 2006.

The PPQ is nothing more than a P99 with a new trigger group and revised aesthetics. Aside from the texturing, the grip angle and shape are practically the same as the P99. Indeed, as others have mentioned, pistols practically identical to the PPQ have been marketed as the P99RAD and P99Q on the European LE/military market.

There is no doubt that the P30 borrowed heavily from the P99 design. The grip angle and shape are unmistakable. And that's a good thing, because the ergos of the P99 design are impeccable! The P99 was also the first polymer-framed service pistol that incorporate interchangeable backstraps, a bandwagon that many others (including HK - who went a step beyond by adding side panels) have incorporated.

Having owned a P30L, I wouldn't be touting the superiority of the P30 over the Walthers ;)

The P30 grips bend when squeezed hard, the texture is super sharp but wears quickly, the slide stop is pulled out (but not off) to take down and is extremely difficult to do, the reset on SA is almost as long as the pull from DA to SA, the sights are just as crud as the PPQ, the DA is just as rough on the P30 as the P99, P99 had ambi long slide stop levers before the P30 was made (sold in the US as the Night Defense kit and the P99 TA was created in 2002 with ambi long slide stops)...

No. The P30 defiantly borrowed from the P99. The shape of both grip and slide are noticeable when holding them both. P99 came out nine years before.

There really are minimal changes from the PPQ from the P99. The PPQ is just a P99 in SA only. It is fun to see everyone gush over the PPQ when the P99 has the same trigger but just a bit lighter still.

I prefer the AS trigger but liked the slight upgrades of the PPQ. So I basically brought the upgrades to my P99. I textured the grip, added another rail slot, and upgraded the front site. While keeping the trigger I love.
