o today my PPQ M1 came into the shop after several months of eager anticipation.

When i was at Shot Show the other day I had a chance to stop by the Walther booth and talk to them. The guys I talked to were very nice and very proud of their product line. I also had a chance to talk to the guys who designed the PPQ which was pretty cool.

I wanted the M1 because the M2 just didn't feel right in my hand with the mag release button were it was. The M1 version feels perfect and personally I think it looks more appropriate on the gun with the paddle release. The trigger is phenomenal and the ergonomics are great!

Sadly I won't have the chance to shoot this gun until late next week but if it shoots as good as it looks and feels I have no doubt this gun will be worth the wait.

Congrats on the ppq. I got a m2 in 40s&w about 3 weeks ago. I would have probably got the m1 if they had any just because it is the original design. However I'm glad I got the m2 as all my semi autos except my uspc have mag button releases and that's what I'm use to. The ppq feels great in my hands and the mag release is in the perfect spot as I don't have to change my grip to release the mag. Sadly I haven't got to shoot mine yet either do to work, weather, and family stuff. If this gun shoots as well as it looks and feels this will probably be my favorite in my collection. Let us know how it shoots when you get a chance.

Great gun! I've had a PPQ 9MM for 2 years, and have about 3500 rounds through it. Definitely my favorite ,I can shoot it better than any of my centerfire pistols.

Very nice. I like that it does not have that big old Smith and Wesson import label on it like mine does.

The PPQ is a stunning pistol to shoot. Enjoy it!

Is the M1 still being offered, or did you have to shop the used market for it?

The PPQ M1 (with the proper paddle-style mag release) has been reintroduced for 2014 by Walther, but in limited numbers.

When I found out that Walther was going to do a limited run of the PPQ M1's early 2014 I started checking all the LGS's. I found out today that one of the LGS's got some in last week and had one left. I ran down there and picked up the last one. I am a big fan of the European mag release on the trigger guard. I have a P99C AS and love that gun. I have not got to shoot this PPQ yet but when the weather clears I am on the range. I wonder if Walther is going to start doing regular runs of the classic? They sure are popular around here.

My major (only actually) complaint about the PPQ is it appears they did not make the M2 magazine to be backward compatible with the M1. This will inflate the price of replacement magazines for both models. Unless the M1 remains in the product line, mags for it will likely become scarce and expensive as time goes by.

Fit doesn't necessarily mean works as well as factory. If you are happy with third party magazines I guess this could solve the issue.

Pro-Mag and Tripple-K cover nearly every gun, but few of their mags actually work reliably.

P99 .40S&W Mags didn't lock back on the last shot in my PPQ. YMMV.

It is the M2 mags that are scarce.
True at the moment, but if the M2 will become the main product line, it'll change eventually.

The Magnum Research P99 clone magazines are EXACTLY the same as the P99 magazines. They are made by Mecgar. I bought some Magnum Research mags for my P99 recently. Midway USA had them cheaper. Only the baseplate is marked different.

And, the P99 magazines and the PPQ mags are about the same... Only the hole for the mag release is different. Comparing these mags to Triple K and Promag makes no sense at all.

Nice pistol. I bought a five inch PPQ M2 this afternoon. Now if I could just find a holster.

Walther makes a great gun. I have a PPK 380, and a P22. Both are fun guns at the range. I also have a vintage
PPK just in case I have a James Bond moment. All work well and are highly dependable.

As Shipwreck mentioned, the Magnum Research branded mags are NOT third-party mags. They are made by Mec-Gar just like the factory Walther mags and absolutely identical, other than the name molded on the baseplate. These mags are marketed to be used with the Magnum Research MR9 - a licensed copy of the P99 whose frame is actually made by Walther.

I own numerous Walther and MR-branded mags for my P99AS. They are all of extremely high quality and look and function identically. The Walther-branded mags sell for ~$45 and the MR-branded mags sell for ~$25. Using the MR-branded mags is a no-brainer.

The fact that the PPQ M2 cannot use my existing stock of P99 mags or the inexpensive MR mags is exactly why I feel the M2 is a blunder for Walther.

As I said, the .40S&W Walther P99 mags I tried in my .40S&W PPQ (original pre-M2 model) did not lock the slide back on the last shot. If they work for you great, maybe its different for the 9mm versions.

The PPQ M1 will only use the later-generation P99 mags (all MR-branded mags are of the later variety, AFAIK). Perhaps this was your issue?

Like who knew there were "generations" of P99 mags? How could I tell?

Earlier production P99 mags had a higher front lip than current-production P99/PPQ/Magnum Research mags. The feed ramp of the PPQ is shaped slightly differently from the P99 and the PPQ will only accept these newer mags (the P99 will accept both old and new). See the photo below. The newer mag with the lower front lip is on the left:

I'm not sure when the P99 mag design changed - probably mid-way through the last decade when the PPQ design was introduced on the European market as the P99Q & P99RAD. I suggest you go over to waltherforums.com. There is a great group of folks there that can answer any Walther-related question you have.
