Does your FAL do this?

I bought 20 used mags from DSA. They were in varying condition, but I’d say that 75-80% are in excellent shape (Steyrs). Some are as nice as the one that came with my rifle. I only received two types, parked Steyrs, and painted Belgians. I cleaned them all up by scrubbing with turpentine, wiped them down with an oiled rag, and replaced the springs in a couple that looked/felt rough. So far they’ve all been 100% reliable.

I was thinking of refinishing 4 of the rough looking ones I have, but haven’t gotten around to it.

I just built a new FAL... new Imbel upper, new Belgian lower, new Imbel barrel, and new bolt assembly. I love it, love it, love it. Very reliable. :)

Well good news, my sight got here about half an hour ago, and is now successfully installed. From eyeballing it, it looks to be at least as high at 200m as the old one was at 500m, which would be perfect... if it is a little higher, it would let me un-bottom-out my front post at the 200 meter setting. If not, well... close enough I guess.

Also, those two tight mags feel a lot looser just from sitting overnight with 20 rounds in them. They aren't as loose as the others yet, but they are on their way. I got a good solid chambering of the top round off of both of them.

I'm pumped about hitting the range with it asap. I'm going to turn the gas back to 4 or 5, and if it runs well on 5, I'm just going to leave it on 4 and be done (and happy) with it for now.

I like to set the gas by firing it single shot from a loose hip hold and dialing out the gas adjustment ring click by click until the bolt no longer locks back. I then go back 2 clicks (one click more closed than reliable operation.)

This setting is diferent for different ammo, tempertures, cleanlyness, ect... (possibly even different mags on your gun)

Lots of folks like the adjustable gas, as I said before I dont, but thats what we got.

Mine needs a full head of steam to go into battery too.
But...
So does my AK and my SKS. Even my SIG prefers to be released from the rearmost position. IIRC, you aren't supposed to ease the bolt forward on any semiautomatic firearm. When the action cycles the bolt or slide is coming back forward with everything it has so you aren't doing any harm by charging it the same way.
