Does your state restrict the type of CCW handgun you carry?

In MA you can carry any handgun if you have a Class A license.

Now BUYING the handgun you want in MA can be a lot more difficult. :fire:

In Texas if you use a revolver to qualify you are liimited to carrying a revolver. If you qualify with a semi you can carry anything.

WA has no equipment requirement other than having to be an actual handgun (not a longgun). There is no training or qualification requirement, fill out the form, get printed, pay the fee, wait by the mailbox.

In the CCW class I help teach we encourage our students to qualify with both a semiauto and revolver and list that on the forms. We do this to provide a little bit of protection (?) in case they ever have to defend a justifiable shooting against some over anxious DA who accuses them of using a handgun "...they were not trained with."

Are there any cases in where this line of prosecution was used in NC?

Ohio's license is for handguns only, but no restrictions limiting types or individual weapons. We have plenty of other silly restrictions though.

Anybody from Tennessee care to chime in?

Here in the Volunteer State, we have a Handgun Carry Permit. It doesn't matter what caliber or type of handgun you qualify with, you can carry any type you wish. It does mean that longguns, clubs, broad swords, and pack howitzers are out of the question as carry pieces however.

Although SC calls it a "Concealed Weapons Permit", their definition of concealed weapons is as follows:
(5) "Concealable weapon" means a firearm having a length of less than twelve inches measured along its greatest dimension that must be carried in a manner that is hidden from public view in normal wear of clothing except when needed for self-defense, defense of others, and the protection of real or personal property.
So it's pretty much limited to handguns. No restrictions on type that I'm aware of, though.

Incidentally, PA's permit is called a License To Carry Firearms.

The definition of firearm, as it pertains to the section of code relevant to the permit, is carefully crafted to avoid longarms, which are only minimally regulated to begin with. (ie: shotguns < 18 inches, rifles< 16), which inadverdently therefore includes NFA items such as SBS and SBR :)

And yes, PA is a Class III state :)

NY - Have a Pistol Permit - ya don't have to qualify with anything, but each gun you want to carry must be "ammended" to your license - send in a form in duplicate witha SASE, wait a couple weeks to get 2 little blue forms - 1 for you, one for the dealer.
