Don't buy K31's...

GunsBeerFreedom: Come on over across the pond. The eyesores are plentyful.

K31's are horrible. The GP-11 round is even worse. I've been trying for months to work up a handload that matches the GP-11's terrible performance, but to no avail. Give a wide wide berth to both the rifle and the ammo.

I Just ordered my first K31 from Aim. Cant wait until i get to it in September. What Kind of groups at 100 yards can i expect with GP-11 given I do my part, at 300? Wikipedia says its effective to 800 yards, how valid is that claim?

I picked up my third K31 two weeks ago. I traded (2) Mosin Nagants (a 91/30 and a nice laminate stock M44) along with an Ishapore 2A1 enfield for a walnut stocked gun. The only thing that miffed me is that Cabela’s didn’t provide the matching magazine. I was told that they had a large group of them at their headquarters in Sidney Nebraska and kept the magazines separate from the rifles. When they shipped them out to the other stores they didn’t make sure that the magazines matched. :cuss:

Not sure what I’ll do with this one, either clamp on my second set of diopter sights or have rock solid scope mounts put on the receiver.

I bought one in birch a few years back. The stock is trashed but nice bluing still. Anybody know where I can get a walnut stock for cheap? Or maybe even a monte carlo style aftermarket one?

Thanks for the link rust collector.
And to the OP..... Have you noticed that all the Schmidt-Rubin rifles have that horrible smell? It's hard to notice at first but after handling one it ends up in your clothes. It’s kind of like a turpentine/fecal smell. Everybody should stay away from theses smelly overpriced rifles!

Yeah, mine's horrible, too. I didn't pay enough for it, so it cries every night and tells me I don't really love it enough. And I don't shoot it enough, or load enough softpoints, and I've never killed a deer with it, or anything.

Crybaby, says I. Can't stand a crybaby.

I bought a couple of them years ago for under a $100 bucks a piece when they were new on the market. Then I heard that straight pull bolt actions are unsafe. Apparently the bolt can fly back out of the action and hit the shooter. Now more of the unsafe things are in the country. If anyone is interested, I'll reluctantly pay the same price I did back then for them and dispose of your safety hazard for you. Don't want anyone getting hurt out there.

Saw one at the gun show today for $250. Metal was mint. Stock had been refinished and has a thick gloss finish to it. It looked nice, just not my preference. All numbers matched. Good deal?

Thats what were hoping for! I just bought a 1911, what a horrible POS, the Swiss should be ashamed of themselves for making such a POS.

I'll give everyone with a 1911 Swiss rifle or even a K11 $20 to take that POS out of their safe!:D

I had one but sold it, the steven .308 does everything better. Better scope mounting, cheaper ammo, more accurate, same price but new. Other than the historical collectability I don't see the appeal. What am I missing?

All of my K31's were used in the field as evidenced by their stocks, they are well over 60. I Wonder what shape a Steven's would be in after that, as accurate as a K31 today?

Nothing wrong with a good accurate Stevens chambered in a common caliber. Just not as cool as the K31.

Not to brag....well, maybe a little. Just picked up my third and fourth for $145 and $155. Beech stocks, matching numbers, and one has the troop tag under the butt plate. Both were pretty grungy, but they're cleaning up nicely. I'm convinced, though, that the Swiss used the stocks for batting practice.
