"Dont Play With That"

Or how about a sign. "No touching, Unless company sales person with you, its for the children."

...reminds me of something Andy Rooney said about 30 years ago before I realized what his politics and religion are/were... he said any times he sees a "keep out" sign it makes him feel like saying "the hell with you buddy, I'm coming in." Same way with "keep off the grass". ***shrug***

You took that from a salesman? You trained him to be that way.

My response would have been "Do you want to sell it to me? Get your boss, I will explain to him why I will be buying this safe from his competitor"

I own a gunshop. I would have let this saleman go home for the rest of the week or longer.

I swear that kind of stuff seldom happens to me. Granted, there is one gun store in Tulsa that doesn't ever get my business (Dong's) because the guys behind the counter are relatively rude and watch customers like they are already stealing something, but I very seldom run across someone who is outright ignorantly rude. I tend to believe that if one puts something on display they should expect it to get played with. If they didn't want it touched they should have left a sign on it or pulled the batteries. (I personally wouldn't want a safe that required a power source anyway.)

In a nutshell, the dude behind the counter lost a sale (and probably several) and you had to find a new dealer. He's got the freedom to run his business however he wants and you have the freedom to go to someone else.

I always ask before I pick something up at a show and don't expect too much out of someone who works at Bueno. Keeps life simple.

I cannot bring myself to buy from rude people. I dont need ear to ear grins, but a little courtesy and respect is what I value, even over price. The most rude experience ive ever had was at a hole in the wall gunshop, and I left knowing that at least they knew why I was no longer a customer.
As to the tipping, I feel like im sitting in on the Diner scene in Resevoir Dogs...and im Mr. Pink. Tips are earned, and a rude or bad server will NOT be tipped, ever. Hopefully these folks will over time alter their customer servce.
I never fail to leave a good tip for good service.
If you are not happy making whatever your wages are as a server, you can either move on to another job, or up your service standards.

Last gun I bought at a gunshow last month I kind of threw the salesperson (a young kid about 20 or so) off balance. I asked to see the gun I bought. Even though it was new I did the check on it. I then asked if the price was the best he could do. He said the price was firm which was ok with me because I had already done my homework on prices for the gun. I said I would buy it and he looked at me funny and said "are you sure?". I suppose he expected me to rant and rave about the price for the gun, but my research showed the price was fair and it was what I wanted. I said I was sure and and also said "you're boss is 1\2 hour backed up on phoning in federal firearm sale approvals and nobody is walking away to the next table to buy." That ought to tell you something right there. After a 1\2 hour wait, I finallly walked away a happy customer with my gun. And I am the one in this forum bitching about the ripoff prices of the local gunshops.

I think most of the problem was that your shopping in Oceanside California. it seems to me that rude people grow out of the walls(and i was born there).

For the record, the shop I had a problem with was NOT in Oceanside... it was north of there. I actually like Iron Sights in Oceanside I am considering getting a year membership.
