Just had a thought. Actually, it's rattled around in my head for a bit now and I don't think I've seen any discussion on it before.

In handguns there are Single Action designs, Double Action, SA/DA, DAO, etc.

I was thinking about rifle and shotgun designs and action types. It seems to me that all longarms are single action only.

Are there any rifle or shotgun designs out there in which pulling the trigger performs essentially a double action? The only one I could think of might be revolving rifles.

Also, is there something in the designs that inherently prohibits using double action mechanism?

Just curious, thought I'd throw it out here for discussion...

i think that the heavier trigger pull needed for DA is a bad idea for long arms since they are intended for more precision than handguns but the idea may have some uses

Above is true, but also because there never was a need I guess. DA was primarily invented so one could carry a round in the chamber safely. With a long gun, It isn't stuck in your belt next to the giblets and is safer by the fact that is just not as wieldy as a pistol.
