I have about 500-700 budget to buy my last gun for the next few years with Law School looming on the horizon for next fall. I want a "assault rifle" as they may get banned before I have the money again. I have found a used Double Star M4 style AR-15 for $599 at a local gunshop in great condition. The only thing I don'y like about the gun is that it has a fixed carry handle.

Does anyone have experience with Double Star and their rifles? If so is this a good deal and would you recommend the purchase?

Note: AK lovers, I know I could get a good AK for a better price but I would rather have an AR. Thanks for your concern though.

Unless the Double Star is a select-fire weapon, it is NOT an assault rifle.

Evil black rifle? Maybe.
Homeland defense rifle? Sure.
But not an assault rifle.

I also have a Double Star rifle and it has been 100 percent reliable. Good people too.

This is actually an old picture of her, back when she had a fixed carry handle. Since then, the upper reciever has been changed to a flattop.

Doublestar and J&T Distributing are the same people...

Both their completed guns (Doublestar) and their kits (J&T) are top notch and well worth the money.

In addition, the people working there are great people to deal with...

Thanks for the feedback guys. I really like the idea of buying a DoubleStar rifle. They are located a county away from me. I have personally spoken with the CEO of DoubleStar when I was thinking about doing a profile of the company for a buisness publication I am interning for. The story fell through after we decided it was best not to inform Central Kentucky citizens that such a facility was nearby when it could increase security concerns for the company. Anyway she was very nice and a pleasure to deal with.

Yeah ive talked to them before as well. As I said before great people. On a side note which gun shop do you visit in Lexington (I live in Lexington as well)?

I visit the Southland triple-threat of gunshops: Classic Arms and Archery, Evans Firearms and Arcery, and Antique and Modern Firearms. I usually make stops at all three. Evans is my favorite though as the employees are willing to sit and chat if there aren't other customers waiting.

3 of my AR's have J&T parts on them. I buy something from Gary at almost every show I go to. My buddy bought a collapseable stock from them and he was out of buffer parts. He took my friends address and sent one to him within the next day or two.

The parts, people, and service are all first class as far as I'm concerned.

Please safe your pedantry! He put "assault rifle" in quotes!

Not much experience with Double Star, but I'll put in a word for Olympic. Their quality of late seems to have improved, and you can get an AR from them for a similar price.

Bought it. They brought the price down to $575 for me :D:D:D. Won't get a chance to shoot it for a few days but I need the time anyway to familiarize myself with the function or the rifle. Any good websites with break down and operating info?
