Anyone own a Doublestar (complete) AR with opinions. Fit, finish, reliability? Vs. Stag Arms, which I am leaning towards. Haven't dug up much info. Thanks in advance.

I have a DS STAR-15 lower with a Stag LPK I put in it and a complete 20" A4 HBAR upper from J&T (Same company as DoubleStar, but it's the side that sells parts, uppers, kits, etc.). Fit, finish are excellent. Reliability excellent so far. Accuracy, too. I'm quite happy with it.

The Stag LPK was what I happened to have; I acquired this stuff when the AR first reappeared in California, and at that point you took what you could get. I'm sure the DS parts are the same.

Essentially, I have a complete DS; for California legal reasons, I had to put start by buying a stripped lower, not a complete rifle.

Is Doublestar made in the U.S.? Before anyone suggest I do a search, I looked at their website and it says they build the rifles in KY but it doesn't say where the parts originate from. Do they make their own parts or import them and assemble in KY?

I am unaware of any AR-15 (not HK, etc) upper and lower receivers that are imported into the U.S. Heck, most receivers are coming out of a handful of forges anyway, just with different rollmarks on them.

I just called them and asked... the gentleman was very happy to say that they have them manufactured here in the US of A. They do not have their own machine shop for this so it is contracted out.

IIRC, the lower receivers are made by LAR - same people who make DPMS, CMMG, latest Noveske, etc lowers.

...and assembled in good ol' Winchester, Kentucky.
I've had several, haven't had a problem with any of them. The Starnes' family are first rate people.

I'm likely to buy more, BTW. I am quite satisfied with DS/J&T quality, the price, and the quick turnaround.

I did go over to Model 1 Sales, but only because they have a great selection of fairly-priced .22LR uppers with prompt delivery times. DS hasn't offered anything in .22LR AFAIK.

had a doublestar lower that took all of 15 minutes to install a DPMS lower parts kit into. perfect fit and finish.

Doublestar parts are Mil-spec parts from Shaw®, Wilson Arms®, FN®, and Colt® contractor's.
