My father recently acquired a DPMS upper for his old Colt AR. It (the upper) is setup as a DCM-spec unit. We were at the range practicing today and I asked if I could shoot a string of 10 through it at 100 yards. Naturally, my father agreed and got on the spotting scope to watch. I went into a slung-up prone position and proceeded to hammer out a group of 9 into about 2". I called round number 3 high and out of the group due to a wind gust (I blinked).

I wish I had a scanner and could post a picture of the target. Being a brand new upper with 60 rounds through it I was impressed as all heck with the results. Basically, I am learning more and more about how accurate properly set-up AR-15s can be. Still in the amazment stage I guess. Just wanted to share that one doesn't need a $2k Les Baer AR to have a good shooting semi-auto! :)

Take care all.

PS: The ammunition used was a handload I brewed up for my Armalite M-15 with Varget and 69gr SMKs.

My first AR was a DPMS. The first group it fired was a 5-shot measuring .246" at 100yds. This is a reason I usually advocate non-chrome lining on non-combat weapons.

They built the new DPMS factory on the range where I'm a member. I drive next to it several times a week. They've made great strides by bringing competative shooting and defensive shooting schools into the area. Here's One

Although I have no real preference towards any one AR manufacturer, I really like the personel associated with the DPMS company. I've had success with DPMS, Bushmaster, Les Baer, and Colt.
