DPMS Ar15 lite or regular version of AR15 Differences?

okay i am in the market for a ar-15 style rifle, and sorry if i sound like a noob, but i would like to know if there is any difference between the Regular AR-15 Rifles and Lite Ar-15 Rifles from DPMS???

All that i know is that the lite version of the Ar-15 is cheaper......compared to a regular ar-15 from DPMS, and also why do you offer a lite version of the AR-15?????

Any help would be greatly appreciated

I am an AR noob myself, but from what I understand, the "lite" version comes with a thin, lightweight barrel whereas the regular versions come with the thicker-walled heavy barrels. Probably more of a personal preference thing than anything else. I know lots of people who prefer the quicker handling of the lightweight barrel models.

I'm sure others will be along shortly to greatly expound on what I've said.

Light profile barrel, and A1 style upper receiver.

That means no windage adjustable rear sight like on the A2, or removable carry handle & rail mount like on the A3 flat-tops.

In fact, it is very similiar to the early Colt pencil-barrel carbines.

Barrel and rear sight. Will you be humping this rifle across the countryside? Do you want/need a lightweight rifle for HD/SD/SHTF?

Lighter barrels heat up more quickly which can affect grouping.

Yes, but lighter barrels also cool off more quickly!

I have a pencil-barrel Colt carbine, and I love it!
It shoots way better then I can with an EoTech or open sights, hot or cold!

You can always do both ... buy the rifle in either and buy the completed upper in the other !

In the next few weeks I'll start assembling my own AR carbine "mid-length" model from Del-Ton, with it's heavy barrel. But I can already see that I may want to then put together an M-16A2 lookalike off the same receiver.

I may already be coming down with BRD (Black Rifle Disease)!
