Anyone have any experienced with these? I bought one from Wally world at a good price I thought, but I am finding putting sights on it plus the hassle is maybe not worth it.

The rail is all flatt and accepted the rings ok it is just the 50mm scope won't allow me to set the scope into the rings.
I bought some weaver rings and a 3x9x 50mm scope and it won't fit. The rings aren't tall enough! I looked at DPMS website and Troy's. Wow If I buy their stuff I should have just bought the whole thing already put together! It has an sling point on the butt, but nothing on the forend. Again I am looking at a bunch more money, cause I have no experience with this type of platform. There was no owners manual and my computer won't download it. DPMS is sendiing me one, but I am champing at the bit wanting to shoot it. I am not going to waste ammo at close to $1.00/round with no sights on it. I am thinking of taking the scope and rings back and getting an aimpoint vs finding some raised rings? Decisions, decisions.

Throw a set of Weaver Extra High Tactical Rings on it and see if those aren't tall enough. you can always buy a set of risers.

I didn't care for the LR-308T I owned. It never shot as well as I had hoped. It was also extremely gritty no matter how much I cleaned it. I decided I wanted something lighter and handier for hunting, so I bought a 458 SOCOM.

all of my rifles have both except this one. This is my first AR platform. The battle sights are as expensive(actually more)than the optics. I'd prefer a scope for longer range.

What kind of sights are you looking at? On that note, what kind of optics are you looking at? There's no way a set of irons can cost more than good glass.

I have a Tasco 3x9x50mm that cost $36. The Rings that don't work $11.00. Battle sights cost at a minimum twice that from DPMS and even more from Troy.

I think I would take the irons over the Tasci. Just my opinion. And yes, I do have experience with Tasco optics...

I have an LR and haven't had a bit of trouble with it. Get higher rings and there won't be a problem. My 308 upper has a scope with a 50mm objective so I'm speaking from experience.

My LR308B has a 50mm scope on it. You just need higher rings.
The LR308s have an excellent reputation of great accuracy, a good scope will help you bring out that accuracy.
I've had mine for 6 years, over 2000 rds downrange, it shoots consistent sub moa groups with decent ammo. In those 6 years, no jams, no failures, no problems. Money very well spent IMnvHO.

My DPMS TAC20 (20" barrel and .308 caliber) has been great. Accurate to 1 MOA with bipod at 100 yards and flawless feeding everything I've tried. I use a Nikon 223 one piece 20 MOA scope base with a Nikon 6-18X40MM Buckmaster scope. The entire set up is awesome. I highly reommend the one piece scope mounts. Do a search and you will find others.

You can do what you want to for a scope, but these guys are speaking the truth. You don't have to drop $1300 on a Nightforce or Leupold, but you will want more than the Walmart special for that rifle. I am putting Badger Ordnance rings and mounts on mine, those alone are more than $200.

Thanks for the input. I went to The Outpost Armory. Bought a one piece Leupold raised rings that mounted the Tasco just fine. Yeah, Yeah. I have a Tasco on my Rem 788 in .308 for 26 years and it still shoots great after close to 500 rounds. I have cheap binoculars too and for my purpose do what you would pay $200. A lot of snobbery about optics I've found. If that is what you want and can afford it go for it! I don't shoot thousands of rounds like a lot of folks-can't afford to. I'll sight my gun in and shoot it several times a year.

It's not snobbery when it's the truth. I've used a bunch of cheap optics in my life. I imagine most of the guys here have. Tasco is not what it was when you scoped your 308 bolt rifle. Just keep these words in mind if you start having shift in your zero or if it develops a rattle.

A 308 AR isn't a scope killer by any means, but if you are going to spend a chunk of change on a decent rifle, you might as well put the same kind of consideration into the glass. It's like a marriage. That scope and rifle have become one unit at this point. If either part of the unit fails, the entire unit fails to work at peak efficiency.

I'm no brand snob by any means. I catch flack for using Nikon glass on expensive rifles, but I have spent enough money on cheap optics (that failed) that I have learned that there is a certain price point at which quality drops off drastically. That price point is about $140-$160 in variable power scopes (new ones). The only brands that build bargain scopes that I would trust would be Leupold and Nikon.

You may never have an issue with your Tasco. It might give you a lifetime of service, but why chance that?

Those old Tasco's were decent scopes and cost $50-$75 30 years ago. They don't call a $36 scope in todays money a trashco for nothing.

With a flat top AR platform you really need to use a riser block in order to get the scope where it belongs. If you can afford a $800 rifle, put some decent sights on it and do it right.

There is a difference between snobbery and good advice.

If I said "anything but a NightForce is junk", that's snobbery.

If I say "putting a $35 Tasco on a $1000 rifle is a bad plan", that's good advice.

Personally, I believe that with that scope, you'll sight your gun in several times a year.
