I have always loved the idea of SIGs, although I really like my plastic pistols I am always drawn to wood and steel; unfortunately SIGs always pointed low for me and so I could never make my self act on my lust. Anyway I went to my local shop with the intention of picking up a XD45 to use all the 45ACP ammo I have after putting my original 1911s into safe queen status. When I got there I noticed they had the new Sig p229 elite SA/DA In black stainless trim (ya i know it's not 45acp). If you have ever felt that SIGs don't point for you I really suggest that you go and put one of these babies in your hands. It just feels right, the beaver tail really does make that much of a difference. The trigger feels great too out of the box in both SA and DA modes.

I am going to field strip this bad boy and take it to the range and I will try to have a real range report on here later today after I have put a few hundred rounds through the guy.

FYI the short reset trigger seems very nice but we will see when we get to the range.

OK I'm back from the range and with 243 rounds shoved down the pipe with no malfunctions!!!

I wanted to put more down range but there was a guy next to me with a 500 S&W with a compensator that was making it difficult to concentrate. He must have dumped $200 bucks in ammo down range.

Anyway back to the P229 Elite.

It shoots better then my XD40SC does but I'm not sure if that is due to the extra sight radius or not.

It tends to have a slight more muzzle rise then the XD but I seem to be able to recover faster which seems counter intuitive to me seeing as it is a heavier gun.

The new shorter reset trigger really does make a difference, I can't take advantage of it yet because I am too use to resetting a much greater distance but it will be interesting how that will change over time. I did notice there was a lot of air in my trigger pull, but as I said that should close up in time.

The trigger is just amazing, at 21 yards with a B - 2 target I could keep 11 out of 12 rounds in the black in DA mode, that's pretty damn good for me. During what is "fast fire" I could keep 95% of the rounds in the circles on a B - 2 target at the same distance.

All in all I'm happy with this pistol, I do understand it is more expensive then a lot of people will be willing to pay but I still maintain it is the best shooting SIG I have shot. I should warn people that if you have smaller hands (I'm above 6') this grip may be a little thick for you but the single stack 45acp version still deserves a look.

The next step is to let some one who can actually shoot play with it and give me an opinion ;)

Got to love those Sigs. They're just great pistols. As for being pricy? Well, if the gun is well made and suits you then you're never going to regret the extra bucks down the road.

The first time I saw that movie I couldn't stop laughing until 10 minutes after it was over!

Exmasonite,

It was about $970

As for the beavertail which is the biggest compliant from the Sig fans I think it really does help on this gun, at least for me. I rented a normal P229 at the range today just to see and it seems that with the 40 S&W it returns to target faster. It could be the thicker grip too but I don't think so. I have put it in a fabric holster (It will be months before I good one in due to build times) and the beaver tail does not dig into me even when driving. It also seems easier to get a positive grip on the pistol when drawing from the holster.
