As a .270 man myself. The lightweight model 70 in the midwest lords caliber would fit the bill.
I have mine in process right now! It is a Winchester M70 Classic action, Obendorf lever aluminum bottom metal, McMillan Supergrade molded in color stock with flush cup sling mount, a premium custom barrel (chromoly), NECG masterpiece banded front sight, NECG classic rear sight, and Bushnell Nitro 4-16 in Warne QD rings & bases. All metal finished in black Cerakote. Trigger tuned to a crisp 2-2.5lbs. Chambered in 300 Sherman. I’m targeting 0.5” t shot 100 yd groups, but I’m ok if it is better.
As it is now bow season where I live, what is everyone's dream bow/crossbow/rifle /shotgun/muzzleloader for any species?......
Keep going until you get a deer with each of those guns. A 100 gr partition from my .25-06 dropped a NY whitetail like it was hit by lightning last year.My dream gun 45 years ago was a Ruger 77 in 25/06.
When my mother died in 1996 i got $1000 from her insurance and bought one and a leupold scope .
It got stollen by my live in's druggie daughter shortly after I bought it.
Last year I did a trade for a nice older Ruger 77 in 25/06. Bought a nice leupold scope. Worked up a nice load for it. Took it back to Upstate New York for deer hunting . Used it first day and then used my H&R Handi-Rifle for the rest of the season.
Next year if I am still able to hunt I will use it until I shoot a deer with it.
My sister just passed away yesterday morning so this sentimental stuff is something that has to get done.
My father died when I was eleven.
Our family didn't have money, my father bought my oldest brother a used J C Higgins (Sears & Roebuck) 12 gauge tube fed bolt action shotgun when he was about twelve years old.
He gave he that shotgun when I was about 14 or so. I traded it for something way back then.
I bought another one off of Gun Broker to replace it a couple of years ago just for sentimental reasons.
My oldest brother dided five years ago.
Next trip back to Upstate New York that shotgun need to take some game by me before I pass it on to one of my kids. .
Guns don't have to be something of high value to make them worth a lot to you.
asking not to be sarcastic, but because it is pertinent to my area except we have Douglas Fir. what if you hunt forests and off landings? Sometimes you get a 40 yard shot, sometimes you get 400 yard shots. I'm considering carrying 2 rifles to pick between. Or maybe just one.Depends on where you hunt. Open fields, pine forest.

25-06 sounds pretty good... or 243.
I'm carrying a 270 Weatherby now, close range is brutal on Deer.Carry two rifles??
You mean the one that will kill at 400 yards, won't kill at 40???
Sounds to me like, you need to pick the 25-06 and practice, practice, practice.

Use tougher bullets and/or rib shoot them...I'm carrying a 270 Weatherby now, close range is brutal on Deer.

Use a 160 partition at 27-2900 fps you'll be fine.I'm carrying a 270 Weatherby now, close range is brutal on Deer.
You sir are a man of fine taste. This is the primary "hunting battery".....haven't been out west for a few years now, so the Colt Sauer is pretty much parked. Almost all my hunting now is geared to Whitetail.
