i dont know if this is the right forum for this but since you can shoot these things with either a rifle or a handgun, ill post it here although mine is only for handguns.

i like shooting steel and bought an action target pt dueling tree 2 yrs ago. i enjoy shooting it every so often but it is a beast to get to the range 5 feet high and 110 lbs. if i had my own range ill just leave it out all the time.

for somebody thinking about getting one, it shows what it takes for me to bring it to the range. i ended up ordering its rimfire equivalent a couple of says ago since my son for the past couple of times was the one who requested i lug it to the range and he's only shooting 22s at this time.

I got the similar one from Salute Targets, its rated up to .308 at 100 yards (or further) but we only use it for handguns and SBR.

Its center post removes from the base so no single piece is more that about 30 lbs, packs into the trunk of my car with no problems with plenty of room for guns and ammo on top.

Since I have a herniated disk, paying extra to keep the weight of the individual pieces down was well worthwhile.

Turned it off when the loud obnoxious music started.

I am sure dueling trees are fun to shoot.

I built mine with bullet proof wheels on the base and a handle at the top so it can be tilted over and rolled into place to shoot.

Incase I have to haul it somewhere there is a "T" bolt that holds the upright in place on the base so it reduces the weight and makes it a bit more compact, doesn't require any tools either.

jmorris that's a great idea with the wheels. does it break down further for transporting in a vehicle?

wally how sturdy is the main support if its only 30 lbs? haven't weighed the main support but it is heaaavy.

sorry for the music but had to put something while i'm speeding up the video

i have used the rifle rated action target dueling tree for years. it's by far the best dueling tree on the market, but it is heavy as balls. i take the plates off but never take the base apart when i transport it. i just pick it up and chuck it in the back of the truck.

The main vertical support is the bulk of the weight and the heaviest single piece. The base is wider and longer than what I see in the video and photos. It has holes to drive in stakes in front, but I rarely bother with doing it, no real need it doesn't move around significantly, just a lot of wobbles when hit. It may actually be closer to 40 lbs than 30, but in any event, I need to avoid lifting anything much heavier without assistance.

For pistols up to .357 and .44 Mag, I've got a shooting tree that has withstood 9mm and .45 ACP ammo and .38/.40 S&W ammo all day long using several shooters to no avail granted it is a lot smaller with 6" targets (4) and stands right at 3.5' but is very stable and just keeps coming back for more I'll post a picture here shortly.

Dueling trees are a lot of fun to shoot at with friends. However, they are a pita to move, especially without a truck. There is not really a way around it, a center-fire plate rack will be big, heavy and likely covered with mud and lead residue when you are done with it.

I rigged/fixtured a cheap harbor freight hand truck to transport my dueling tree and other steel targets.
I leave the tree strapped to the hand truck to store it at home, so there's need to take it a part, and I use a ramp to get it into the truck when I'm alone
I have a ramped low deck trailer too :)
works for me...might look into adding steel wheels to the tree though, like jmorris
:D

the hand truck i used was bought off a truck sale for $19 yrs ago. since my son now frequently asks me to bring the dueling tree and now that he can hit it consistently from a rest i figured might as well get a rimfire version.
i was getting info when i saw it advertised for $99 instead of $149 black Friday with $18 shipping . arrived today and quickly assembled before my son gets home from school.

I also have wheels on my plate rack so it can be rolled around.

I got lazy and just bought solid tires/wheels for it though.
