Been carring for some time, but never with an extra mag. I have a G30 and would like to carry 1 extra mag. How do you all carry the extra mag? What has worked, what hasn't?

Thanks

Pocket space can be limited if you don't wear cargo pants or shorts but they work. Lately I have been using a belt holder and it I like it. Its comfortable balances out the weight on your belt and the magazine will be there when you reach for it in the proper position.

I just drop mine in my off side pocket of my jeans, but I don't carry a lot of stuff in my pockets. I'll check it every day or so for lint, etc., but it's never been a real problem.

If it's a single stack magazine I usually just carry it in my left side front pocket. Double stack magazine gets a magazine pouch which goes on my belt on the left side.

G21 magazine in an OWB magazine pouch worn off side at about 4 o'clock. The same cover garment that hides the pistol hides the magazine.

Thanks for the replies. Never really thought of carrying an extra mag until recently. Mostly due to the change in the general populations behavior. It seems like most carry the extra mag OWB. Is there a comfortable way to carry IWB?

My "second magazine" is actually a second gun. It rides in my front pocket with nothing else. My primary and my cellphone are on my belt. Keys, wallet, and cash are in other pockets, and my knife is clipped to one of those other pockets.

I have been considering moving that second gun also to the belt on the weak side to free up the pocket, though.

I made an IWB carrier for my G19, but more often than not, I tuck it into a pouch I made for my boot stove (cowboy boots). Not fast, but it's there if I need it.

For my LCP sized rigs, I drop it in a pocket when pocket carrying, have an independent IWB slip, and have a holster with a spare pouch. Lots of options.

About 50/50 whether I wear a spare mag or a bug in my boot stove.

I think OWB is fine for concealment and a lot more comfortable between me and a handgun there is enough inside the belt. In my youth everyone was wearing a buck knife on their belt it was comfortable and about the size of a magazine. Unlike a gun when you bend over with a mag carrier there is no grip sticking out. If you are wearing something that conceals the gun it will do just fine covering a mag pouch and it does not look like a weapon.

The reason is OWB mag pouches are fairly small and typically don't hang much below the bottom of the belt. Even if you're wearing an IWB holster, most cover garments that would cover an IWB gun would also cover an OWB mag pouch, unless you're using a tuckable IWB holster for your pistol.

Is there a comfortable way to carry IWB?
I don't know how comfortable they'd be, and the G30 mag would be rather short and thick (you could use a G21 mag) possibly making IWB stability a problem, but this fairly recent thread lists some makers of IWB mag pouches.

I personally have never found an IWB mag carrier to be even remotely comfortable. Glock 21 spare mags have been, IMO, more difficult to conceal than the gun itself. Glock 30 10 round mags are significantly easier. Nice thing with mags is that enough people carry odd, rectangular stuff on their belts anyway (phones, flash lights, leathermans, etc) that a slight bulge under your shirt ain't gonna trigger anything to the few who would even notice.

I use two methods. Either a belt pouch on the off side hip (I prefer the Glock ones, cheap, light, and reasonably compact) or pocket carry for the spare. In the pocket I've either gone loose in the pocket, or using a snagmag (which are pricey for what you get, but do work pretty well).

I carry a G30 much. There's always an extra mag on me, sometimes two. The extra mags are G21s for the additional capacity. The single mag is slipped into my left front pocket. The two mags are on a kydex slip on OWB holder.

I have an IWB double mag pouch from Milt Sparks that I use once in ever ... never.

Yeah, as others said, the idea is great but in practice there's just no benefit to IWB mag carry. A belt pouch from any quality holster works company (or a knife pouch if you can find one to fit) work well, are completely unobtrusive, are very comfortable. Just no "problems" with an OWB style mag pouch that an IWB fixes.

I use a single mag pouch on the side opposite my pistol. Keeps my pants from feelin' lopsided.

I use a Leatherman suede pouch no belt loops and drop it in the off side pocket. First, the intent of my CCW isn't to run to the sound of gunfire - so a quick access magazine tactically situated isn't necessary. This is where a lot of CCW like to adopt LEO or mil procedures but demonstrate they don't understand the distinct differences. CCW isn't about being the sheep dog protecting the flock - it's about getting yourself out of a situation turned toxic.

For every person who evacuates the situation, the perp has one less target, when the killing field is empty of people to shoot at he is effectively as neutralized as if he was disarmed. Leave him to the cops - they will be along soon enough, and there's no reason to blade off shooting while you reach for your second mag.

A spare in the pocket is enough. Keep it protected from the other junk and lint that accumulates, shoot it at the range and load new every now and again, it stays fresh.

And that's a fine way to look at it. It isn't quite how I see or use spare magazines, but there's nothing wrong with going that way if that's how you practice and how your gunfight is going to go.

For what it's worth, if we're getting philosophical about spare mags, every time I'm shooting in practice or competition or training, I have two spare mags just at my left hip. If I'm out in the world, going about my routine, and/or possibly having to deal with some danger, I wouldn't want them to be anyplace but exactly where I reach for them every time I need to reload or clear a malfunction. Hence, my spares are going to ride where they ALWAYS are when I'm practicing to use the gun.

Second, while I sometimes carry a sidearm with 20+1 capacity, and would certainly agree that it is a very rare day indeed where I'd run through all those rounds in a time of trouble, I more regularly carry a 1911, and 8+1 rounds does go by in quite a hurry. It is probably unlikely I'd ever need shots 10 through 25, but every time I shoot, those rounds are there on my left hip. And if I ever NEED the gun, I'm going to have those rounds right there where they're supposed to be. For whatever reason I might want them.
