How many of you actually believe that the outcome of the election will directly affect gun laws? I think there is no way it will affect anything with either of the candidates. Afterall its in the constitution and its up to the individual states, I feel it will stay this way. Your thoughts?

I doubt that whoever is elected will have any time to deal with gun law issues. Action will still be in the law courts.

Yea. I keep reading about all of these people getting paranoid and buying up everything, and talking about it. Just wanted to see how some people on here feel about it. I feel there is NO worry, none, zip.

My son and I had this very discussion the other evening. I pointed out that whoever is president doesn't have to play an active role in Congress passing new restrictions on gun owners. There are plenty of committed antis in Congress that would see an opportunity to push such legislation before whoever sits in the Oval Office.

I think thats a rather simplistic view; Heller merely blunted the extremes on both sides of the issue. obama and Biden are both anti-gun and will likely get a democratic congress. I think the question really is whether the blue dogs will drink the obama kool-aid when it comes to gun control, or will they remember the lessons of '94. My guess is nothing in the first term, but all bets are off if he gets a second term.

Given our position in the world and the state of our economy the government, either republican or Democrat, better being doing things other than addressing gun laws.

Boy is that mistaken!

Getting our guns will be the #1 priority as we are the last thing standing in the way of the socialist takeover that has clearly started with the $700 Billion bailout giving one man, an insider to the cause of the mess at that, unfettered power to decide who is worthy or not with zero oversight.

Here's how I see it. I'd rather get everything I want now and there ends up being no ban, than not get what I want and there IS a ban.

it really does scare me for gun rights. An AWB II would ban every gun I have an actual interest in, or at least take away a key feature that makes it appealing to have.

It's a race against time, and we are still trying to catch up to incorporation, let alone protecting the evil black guns that scare the children.

I don't think there is any "doomsday" outcome.

I think, however, that one day, the very purpose of the second amendment will come to manifestation.

As much as I wish to avoid that outcome, there is a part of me that is frustrated almost to the verge of saying, "let it come."

In this time of economic crisis, be vigilant of any economic legislation that gets antigun amendments tacked on and buried within the bill. Our congresscritters will be apt to pass anything to avert a meltdown.

The economic crisis is as much a setup as it is a crisis. As soon as the Democrats take office (that is, if WE don't get our butts in gear and get out the word and vote), the liberal news media will clam up on the bad news and start telling the good stories. They will make the economy look like it is recovering to help the Democrats look good.

Just a reminder to anyone who might be misled into thinking no gun controls will be passed due to the economic situation. Just remember that in 1929 when the stock market crashed and the Great Depression began, that in 1934
the NFA was passed. Also remember that pistols were almost included not to mention the $200 tax came about due to the fact that was how much the Tommy gun cost back then. The tax was designed to double the price and hence make the gun too expensive.

Eerily we stand to see another law , AWB the sequel, that will most certainly kill off the CMP, Open guns and along with just about every semi auto rifle and shotgun along with standard magazine size and we face ammo restrictions.

Welcome back to the 1930s.

Personally I think that anyone who says it will make no difference regarding the future of RKBA whether Mcain or Obama is elected, has their head in the sand.

I don't mean that as a flame. Just look at the Supreme Court. The next president will likely appoint at least one member. Do you honestly think that Obama is likely to appoint a justice who will respect the Second Ammendment?

Also, If Obama is elected, the Democrats pick up enough more seats in the house, and there is a mass shooting of some kind that the Media is able to whip into a frenzy, we will be looking at AWB2. It is absolutely foolish to think otherwise. Look at the history of these people. Don't buy the lie.

Just a word or two...

While McCain may not be a dyed-in-the-wool gun rights advocate it will certainly be easier (I believe) to influence and pressure a Republican president than it wil be a Democrat.

Secondly, have we so soon forgotten all that was learned under the heel of Clinton's boot?

The most alarming thing to me is that even among those in the 'gun family' we continuously have to point out the obvious.

Surely we are our own worst enemies...

Are gun laws a large part of the candidates campaign focus?? I havent heard either of them mention a whole lot about the issue at hand.

I don't really think it matters at this point they both are sub-standard choices. We as the people influence the right to keep and bear arms. We just need to keep fighting for that right by voicing our opinions, sharing our positive gun related experiences with non-gun advocates and never give in to the ones who wish for an "unarmed" world.

I could believe that another assault weapons ban could pass Congress, but I think the more dire concerns about a complete ban on all handguns, concealed carry or all semi-automatic weapons are greatly overblown. And I also think that Obama has softened his anti-gun views recently to make himself more appealing to mainstream America.

That's the lie, why do you think there has been no media frenzy call for "gun control" after any of the madman with a gun shootings this year? (the Nebraska shopping mall comes to mind immediately, there always are plenty of others every year or two).

Once Obama is in with a democratic majority we'll be screwed for sure. He sees absolutely nothing wrong with Chicago's gun laws and would happily make them nation-wide!

More worried about the congressional election than I am about who gets into the White House. The economic mess dating from Carter's good intentions and rigorously promoted by Clinton is the reason we are in this mess now. Democrats are going to have more to worry about than our guns unless to many gun owners get really stupid and push the issue to the front page. More better we keep chipping away at the last 50 years and get back to a Constitutional Republic as we were designed to be.

In the meantime I am going to keep shooting and do my ever loving best to keep my nose clean. I was out today with my 22 and my Gamo air rifle practicing offhand for squirrel shooting and tomorrow I help the kid next door sight in his new 270 for deer season. He's the future not me.

Yep,its not hard to 'takeover' a nation of people' when they are 'unarmed'.What was it said that Baracula said 'I wont take your guns away' but something about ammunition isnt protected under the 2A?
