Nevermind. It talks about the U.N. imposing taxes on the U.S.

We must have been reading two different bills

Or maybe I'm not legal-literate. I dunno. But, be that the case, that's a pretty rotten bill. From what I read it sounded like we were volunteering money we didn't have to spend in order to give money to tyrannic dictatorships without any guarantee of any of it ever reaching the poor.

Either interpretation is rotten. :uhoh:

WOW, I cannot believe the immaturity, closed mindedness, rudeness, and just plain lack of respect from some of the members here. Has it really come to name calling and putting people down? Can we not all voice our opinions like grown MEN? UNREAL. The thread is on a downward spiral and I hope it gets closed, absolute shame.

Who died and left you a thread? Once you start it, off it goes! My Dad said never argue about religion or politics! Seems about right here, yes?

Who pays most gets to call the piper at the end, who is supporting the Senator from "Chicago"! At the end those IOUs will be called in.

All feelings aside and only my personal opinion I am worried that if Obama doesn't get in, there will be riots, and if he does, he'll get assassinated and then the riots.

Very true Old Guy. I was just saying what
I thought about some of the posts on the thread, you have to admit are pretty ridiculous. But in the end who really cares, this is an online forum talking with complete strangers:)

What is YOUR proof he's a centrist?

That his policies are approximately the same as McCain's. They are both fighting for the center. In American (Presidential) politics, the primaries are won by shoring up support from the "extreme" wings of the party. But the general election is fought in the center.

Why?

  1. Once you have won your party's nomination, you are guaranteed the votes of your party's most dedicated voters - who tend to live at the extremes. There is no point in McCain chasing votes among the most liberal Democrats, or Obama seeking votes among the most conservative Republicans. Al Sharpton is not going to vote for McCain, and Rush is not going to vote for Obama.
  2. The vast majority of the voting public is in the center - that's who you need to win. If you don't pretty close to half of the center 80% of the voters, you can't win the Presidency. The numbers don't support extreme candidates of either stripe - look at the last two elections. Less than 3% of the vote decided that last two elections. You don't get 3% vote differences with candidates at either end of the political spectrum.

Depending on who you ask, 60% - 70% of Americans call themselves "conservative", but Democrats rarely lose Presidential elections in those lopsided numbers. If 65% of voting Americans call themselves Americans, and Al Gore won 48% of the vote in 2000, then almost 15% of the votes he got were from self identified conservatives (assuming he got all of the 35% liberal vote). If 1/3 of his votes came from self identified conservatives, he can't be very liberal!

Look at any other democracy in the world, and you will find a much wider latitude of candidates, from true socialists to fascists. Our right and left are pretty tame - absolutely centrist - when compared with almost any other modern democracy.

If you think Palin sounds more empty than Obama then I guess that tells me a lot about where you're coming from.

Obama set a pretty high bar when it comes to style without substance. I thought it would be hard for any politician to be as utterly devoid of substance as Obama - and then Palin comes along and makes Obama look like a deep thinker. :)

Where I am coming from is calling the way they are - whether I agree with them or not. Search for RPCVYemen on THR - I have no more tolerance for idiotic/stupid/weak pro gun arguments than I do for idiotic/stupid/weak anti gun arguments. The same applies to politics and politicians. :)
