I can't believe what she has had to go through in AMERICA to get a gun and some ammo- But kudos to her for trying and succeeding. Sure would suck to be Officer Harper, he has been called out.

Makes me super glad I live in Florida, not just the weather (~85 as I sit here) but if I want to go exercise my 2nd amendment rights I can just go to any number of stores nearby and get to it.

Emily Does An Update:

Her article appears here, in today's issue of the Washington Times.

The lead paragraph says this:

"The District took a big step on Tuesday toward bringing its gun laws in line with the rest of America. While an oppressive registration requirement remains in place, the D.C. Council voted unanimously to make the overall process of becoming a handgun owner significantly less expensive and time-consuming for residents."

MILLER: D.C.’s newest shooter
Council chairman is on-target with new gun rights for District residents

When one of the District of Columbia’s top political leaders is willing to spend a day at the shooting range with a new gun owner, it’s a sign the capital city may be ready to put aside the past. For 30 years, Washington banned handguns, only to face a Supreme Court rebuke in 2008. Now the city is about to make it easier for law-abiding residents to legally own a firearm.

On Tuesday, the D.C. Council is expected to pass the Firearms Amendment Act of 2012 under expedited procedures so it can take effect this summer. The ordinance will do away with many of the expensive and time-consuming hurdles to registering a gun in the District that were put in place after the court’s decision.

D.C. Council Chairman Kwame R. Brown, who will vote for the bill, has made a 180 on gun rights.

Emily is a brightly shining example of what one determined person in the moral, legal and legal right, can do to improve our society. She has my deepest and sincerest respect. She made the world a better place and makes me ashamed for not doing more myself.

If she ever travels to my neck of the woods I will offer to visit to the local range for some quality trigger time on me as a thank you for her efforts. I am willing to bet she would be a most positive member here if she is inclined to join.:D
